I am setting up my new Dell Inspiron 580 and can't get it to connect to my home wireless network. I have a wifi card installed in the computer. I have a router and modem hooked up to the other computer. I have followed the Dell computer's instructions to turn the router off and then on after 10 seconds, but it's still not connecting. Any advice? Thanks!

Hello,

Turn on the router, then use a pencil to press and hold the reset button on the back for 30 seconds.
Unplug the router's power cord and wait for 1 minute, then plug it in again.
Find the cable that connects the computer to the DSL modem. Unplug the modem and connect the computer to port 1 of the router.
Go to the desktop and launch a web browser. You're going to have to go to the inline configuration panel for the setup.
Type "http://192.168.1.1" into the address bar and click "Go." A login window will appear.
Skip user name and type "admin" (admin is the default password) as the password, and click "OK."
Click on the "MAC Address Clone" sub tab and select "Clone your PC's MAC". Save the settings. This may take a minute or so.
Go back to the "Basic Setup" tab and look for the LAN IP, which is 192.168.1.1.
Change the IP address to 192.168.2.1 then save the settings.
Shut down the computer and router for 2 minutes, then turn both back on.

Connect the DSL modem to the Internet port of the router.
Shut down the DSL modem, router and computer, and wait 3 minutes.
Turn on the DSL modem and wait for it to stabilize.
Turn on the router once the modem has stabilized, then turn on the computer.
Check to see if you are able to get online.

Take care.

Actually, it turned out that I just had the incorrect Security Key after all of that. I discovered this once I restarted my new computer and tried to connect again. I'm glad because your solution was quite complicated.

    Thanks for trying, though!

Can't get my dell to connect to wireless (desktop)

The 530 does not have a wireless network card. If you installed a wireless (wifi) card or USB adapter it usually comes with an installation CD which will guide you through the install process.

Will all wireless adapter brands and models work in a dell inspiron 580 desktop

If your talking about a wireless adapter that plugs in via a USB port then yes. If you are talking about a wireless network card that is installed into a PCI slot inside the computer, you can check with the network card manufacture for the specs but it should work as long as it is Windows compatible.

Dell Inspiron 1525 not connecting wirelessly to Sky broadband

If your wireless router is configured with SSID, encryption, MAC address filtering (if enabled) etc. then the Dell wireless card needs to be configured with these settings to allow it to communicate with the wireless router.
Check the settings on your PC's wireless settings, and configure the Dell the same way.

Wifi card not working???

Your wireless card is not picking up your wireless router, the fault could be that your wireless card did not get a IP address from the router and therefore won't allow the laptop to get into the Internet. Two things to try, if the wireless icon is on the task bar with a red X on the icon then right click on the icon and click on Repair (this will force the wireless router to issue the wireless card with a new IP address). If you don't have an Icon then go to Control Panel - Network Connections and right click on the wireless connection and then click Repair. If this dosen't work then power off your wireless router wait for 30 secs. then power up the wireless router and the reboot your laptop. Get back to me if you still have problems with all error messages.
