No, and you can easily test that just by connecting another external keyboard to the laptop. Your keyboard has died, replace it.

Plug in an external Desktop USB keyboard to test. If keys work, use that external keyboard, to go to control panel and check/adjust some keyboard parameters. Some virus change some of those parameters to "disable" your keyboard.

Otherwise order a replacement laptop keyboard from HP spares/

Try to load laptop in safe mode. If keyboard and mouse works in safe mode - then you'll need to clean your system, it has viruses.

Keys not working

Well, the most common cause of a non-functioning keyboard is a driver issue. If the keyboard driver has been updated by normally a third party update application, then the most recent driver must be uninstalled by using the "rollback" feature. To check this, go to "computer management" then "device manager" then find the keyboard, then "right click" on "properties" go to "driver". Check the date which the driver was updated. If was recent, around the time the keyboard ceased to function, then click on "rollback". You may have to use an external keyboard with a USB plug to do this, as of course the laptop keyboard doesn't work.
A second option is to attach an external keyboard and initiate a "system restore". Go back to a date in which you believe was "prior" to the keyboard issue.
A third possibility is a virus. Once again, attach an external keyboard and run all anti-virus programs to include "spybot search and destroy", "Malwarebytes" and your primary anti-virus program.
There is a forth possibility. If the laptop has been opened for any maintenance, and the underside of the keyboard was exposed, any dust, and I do mean "ANY", just one speck, can cause issues. This is not likely or common.
So unless there are some key events which would cause me to go down another path, one of these solutions will work!

Keyboard not functioning

The whole keyboard does not work? I know of nothing that disables the whole keyboard, except a virus.

Have you tried using the keyboard in Safe Mode to see if it works. If it works in Safe Mode, that means a virus has hijacked your keyboard.

Turn off the computer, then hit the power button to turn itback on and immediately start hitting the F8 key repeatedly until you see SAFEMODE. Take the Safe Mode option and let it boot up. Safe Mode will lookdifferent to you, the screen will be darker and the icons bigger, this isnormal.

I can no longer sign into my laptop, my keyboard does not work but keystrokes happen at sign in they are 333333333333333333333333 which types itself so canot sign into anything. Can you help? Do you...

It could possibly (but rather unlikely) be a virus. However, it sounds more like the keyboard is jammed / broken. You can get replacements online, but fitting them could be an issue, i'd suggest taking it to a tech repair shop and getting them to swap the old keyboard out for a new one. This should fix the problem.

You could try plugging in an external keyboard via USB and seeing if this makes a difference.

The space bar on my desk top computer will not work. I have to use the (-) sign to space out my words when I type. What can I do to get it to work? Can a virus cause it to do that?

This is an electro-mechanical problem with the keyboard. A virus could cause this on a programmable keyboard, but most likely the keyboard itself is bad. Try plugging the keyboard into another computer or laptop (some laptops will accept a 5pin or usb) and see what happens. If it works, scan for viruses. (It is doubtful it is a virus.)

Hp pavilion dv1000 laptop pc keyboard not working properly.

Does this computer KB work alright in SAFE mode? If it does then drivers and/or viruses are the problem. If it doesn't work in SAFE mode then it could be drivers and or keyboard. Now try booting into BIOS. At the date prompt you usually can type any keyboard letter. If the keyboard works here, then you definately have driver/virus issues. If not replace the keyboard.

Have you tried connecting a regular desktop keyboard to your laptop? If so, does the same thing happen?

Keyboards do develop problems, and can usually be fixed by replacing the keyboard. It's not necessarily a virus (actually highly unlikely).
