The problem is usually the igniter not reaching the correct amp draw .When the igniter does not reach the correct amp draw it may allow the gas valve to partially open or not open at all. The igniters are inexpensive and easy to replace. There is a video at http://appliancehelponline.com/gasoventroubleshootvideo.html this will walk you thru the correct procedure for performing this test. It may be a different model but the testing will be the same. You can also enter your model # for diagrams and illustrations of your specific model. Not all models are available. All parts come with installation instructions.

How do I fix broiler that does not burn hot enough to broil. Oven works o.k. Broiler worked last week but now flame is not strong enough.

Make & model? You are talking about flames so I assume it is a gas unit. I would examine the broiler burner, sounds like a problem there.

The oven emits a strong odor of gas the entire time it is in operation?

The oven has 2 igniters. One for the broiler and one for the oven. We had a similar problem but the oven had no flame. The broiler worked fine. If there is no flame than you are going to smell gas since it is not being combusted. The oven igniter is in the bottom of the interior oven. The bottom plate is removable. Since there are openings in the panel sometimes debris falls through and some debris can accumulate. In our case there was some aluminum foil blocking the igniter and a simple cleaning fixed the problem.

Oven wont heat broiler wont heat

is this a gas or electric range. If it is gas it sounds like a flame sensor is not working. The oven will try to fire up, but if it does not sence a flame, it will shut off again to keep the range from filling with raw gas. Also the easy one, is the gas turned on?

My broiler stopped working recently. The oven itself works, but the broiler flames are not lighting. I'm thinking it might be a pilot problem.

I have changed the brners over and thay work fine. But the only thing I could find to change on the oven was in the back.I flipped the orifice but oven smoke3s heavily And flames are too high.

You must remove the oven racks and the base pan inside the oven to access the bake burner gas valve. Using a 1/2 open end wrench you will tighten the orifice on top of the gas valve until the flame is the correct length.
If your model has a top broiler, the broiler gas valve will have to be adjusted also.

Oven produces soot when running, broiler ok, stove top ok

Al, you need to seat the needle valve on the bake. Remove the bottom drawer, right below the bake burner you will see the nut just below the air shutter adjustment. Turn this nut clockwise a few times, it might seem hard but just do it. Then try the bake again, you should have a nice bluel flame. Tenbears.
