On a dell dimension 3100c, i am getting the error when i boot up of Drive 1 not found, parallel ATA, PATA-0 (Pri ide master) When i press F1 the system boots up normally. My hard drive is SATO 0, and the DVDROm is PATA-0. When i disable the PATA, the message disappears, but then the DVD ROM dosent work. The DVD drive is having a problem. Ensure the Jumpers are set to Cable Select, and both the data and power cables are seated well

if the drive still doesn't work right, boot to BIOS, turn on caps lock, scroll Lock and num lock, press ALT +E then ALT+F then ALT+B and let the system reboot and re-detect the drives

If still no go, you can try a different drive and or a different cable

What's your problem?a way to turn the SATA ports to ON in the BIOS

You can go into the bios and on those drives that are not found you can turn them OFF or N/A. They are probably set to AUTO or ON.

If that does not work I would say remove the power cord, remove the cover, then remove the main power to the motherboard then plug the main power to the motherboard back it. The main power will run from the power supply and the end of it will be about a 2 inch strip that plugs into the board. Press and hold the little catch on it then pull it out of the socket on the board. Put it back in firmly. Reboot and see what happens.

Error Message: Drive 2 not found: Parallel ATA, PATA-0 (PRI IDE MASTER)

Anonymous,
Did you set the jumper on the drive to cable select? Check to what the jumpers on the back of the drive is set to. You should have 3 selections. primary, secondary and cable select.
Thank You,

On boot up on my Dimension 3100C I receive the following error message: Drive 1 not found:Parallel ATA, PATA-0 (PRI IDE Master) Alert! chipset heat sink not detected System halted!

first off your going to ewant to hit f2 or f12 to get into setup and you are going to want to change boot oder to your hard drive. i then would open the comoputer up by taking the side of the case off and checking your cpu. u are going to wanna make sure there is a heatsink or fan securly on your cpu. if not this could over heat and burn your cpu up. heat sinks look like thisbadboy616.png

DRIVE 1 NOT FOUND, PATA 0

One of your settings in the BIOS is set to look for a drive and it is not finding it. That is what that message means. If you have multiple drives in this machine then one of them has failed. If you only have one drive then the settings are set to look for a drive and it is not finding it. To fix this reboot the computer. When you see the DELL logo press F2 to get into setup. Then go down to Drives and turn off any drives that are set to Auto, except for your C: drive which should either be SATA 0 or PATA 0. Since it is not saying that SATA 0 is not found then I suspect your main drive is on the SATA 0 channel. Go to SATA 1 and turn it off. The instructions should be on the screen. Usually you select it by moving the arrows and then hit enter, you then use the arrows to select off. If your CD-ROM/DVD ROM is not on PATA 0 then turn it off as well. If you need more advice let me know.

Sounds like you have a bad/disconnected Hard Drive and the system is looking for a second boot device (ie: Floppy with a disk) or your primary IDE channel on your motherboard is bad

Normally you would set it up to boot from:
1. CD/DVD drive
2. Hard Drives

There may also be a floppy drive to add in whereever you want it.
This problem sound like some kind of drive controller or the drives are not being recognized in BIOS...check and make sure you see the hard drives when setting the boot order.

IDE Drive not found on startup

I am assuming that the cd and DVD drives are on the Ide right ?? thats because one of the drives jumper is set wrong. If you take a look at the back you will find it saying master / slave / Cable select with eighter a 6 to 10 pins. basically one needs to be set to master and connected with the top piece of the cable and the other set to slave and connected with the middle of the cable. and the other jacks into the main board. If i misunderstood you please respond correcting me as soon as possible so i can be of further help.

Dimension 3100 Won't Boot

Make sure your HD Cables are all firmly plugged in, and that all drives are starting when you turn on the computer. You can tell with harddrives as they will slightly whine, and have a small, steady vibration to them. If they are all starting, and all cables are fully seated, check in your Setup utility that the drives themselves are Auto-Detect. If none of this fixes your issue, you may have to refer your computer to a computer repair shop.

Hope this helps!
