Thank you for posting your question here on Fixya.com.

The motor is likely failing. It may be a small part such as the capacitor or the starting switch, but could also be more severe such as the winding itself. You will also want to examine the shaft where it passes thru the pump and motor and look for signs of rust from a pump seal leak.

If you are not familiar with testing these parts your best bet would be a local electric motor repair shop to see if the motor can be repaired or if it would need to be replaced. They should also be able to ensure there is no pump damage.

If this answer does not fix your problem, please comment with additional details prior to rating the answer. Positive feedback is appreciated once your problem is solved!

If its a washing machine motor we used to drill a hole just back aways from where the shaft is and fill with motor oil and keep turning shaft with vice grips rocking back and forth and keep putting oil in this can save you over a $100 on the purchase of a new one

The manual start rope will not pull. Seems to be stuck.mower has been garage kept,no gas left in mower over the winter. Air filter and oil has been changed. Lost!!

Possible that the motor has frozen. See if blade can be manually turned after disconnecting the spark plug;using a long breaker bar, turn the bolt on the blade to see if you can unfreeze it if blade is stuck.. Make sure that you have oil in the crankcase.

Is there a lubricant I can use to unstick frozen pressure washer pump?

If pressure washer got frozen over the winter, the pump is bad. replace! Use winter pump protector during winter storage!

Air condition motor not going on

check to see if the fan is running if not it has frozen up over the winter. turn off fuses to a/c unit then try to turn fan by hand,if not soak down fan bearings with penetrating oil like PB Blaster keepmoving fan blade back and forth until it spins freely. Then try turning on the power to a/c unit if motor then turns fan freely , shut it down again and use a good coat of a-1 motor oil (ELECTRICAL) on the fan brgs. This should get you through for another year or so. On the other hand if fan will not spin by the motor now but spins by hand then the fan motor is bad.

Garbage dispoal not working. The blades spin freely inside, the reset button has been reset, when you switch it on the moter makes a faint humming sound, and the allen wrench will not rotate either way.

You need a new disposal.
Free-rotating blades show there is no obstruction.
Humming says you have power.
Frozen allen wrench says bearings are rusted.
Motor is now overheating each timer electricity is turned on, and motor will overheat and stop humming.
At least the drain is clean and water is not flooding under the sink, which means you can continue using sink until disposal is replaced.

I wrote tips for installing disposal from days when I worked apartment maintenance:

My 230 bernina does'nt move when I press the foot switch, just humming.

Sounds like the motor is either frozen or the machine is frozen. Humming means the motor is trying to turn. Is there an external hand wheel which will allow turning the machine by hand? If the machine has been in storage for a long time, the lubrication can become 'glue-like' causing difficult turning. This may require a trip to a service shop--hope this helps!

Kerosene forced air heater will not light, only hums.

Your problem may be as simple as the vanes of the rotor stuck to the pump body, or a rats nest binding the fan blade, or the starter relay being defective (if equipped ) . On the other hand, the bearings in the motor could be frozen up. The motor is not servicable and must be replaced. Start by disassembling the air pump, remove the vanes & rotor, then attempt to start the motor. If it still hums, then you have motor or relay problems.

If the vanes were stuck, clean it up, reassemble (no oil) , set the pump pressure.

Dryer motorstuck.. itself.. work'sometime.. but stop with the humming soung the is some smoke .. please solve it..

hiMotor malfunctions usually call for service by a professional. There are three main causes of motor failure: lack of lubrication, a defective motor switch, or worn or frozen bearings. A humming sound can be related to a burned-out motor or a defective switch. Check these trouble spots before you call a professional service person or take the motor to a repair shop. Here's how to check a dryer motor:

Step 1: Remove the back access panel. Then reach behind the drum, motor pulley, and idler arm pulley. If these areas are clogged with dirt and lint, undue strain on the motor may be causing the humming noise. Worn or broken belts can also cause a humming noise. Check the belts for wear and damage. If the belts look all right, you may be able to stop the noise by spraying them with fan belt dressing, available at automotive and hardware stores and home centers.

Step 2: Turn the dryer on. The noise you hear may be the whirl of the spinning drum, not the motor. Some noise is normal.

Step 3: Force a little 20-weight nondetergent motor oil (not all-purpose oil) around the ends of the motor shaft. This lubrication may stop the humming noise. If this doesn't solve the problem, remove the motor and take it to a professional service person.

The centrifugal switch on the dryer motor may be located on top of the motor. Humming, no motor power, and no heat can be caused by a faulty centrifugal switch. If the switch is externally mounted, check the terminals of the switch to make sure they are tight and not burned. If you spot trouble, remove the switch and take it to a professional service person for testing. A faulty switch will probably have to be replaced. Some centrifugal switches are located inside the motor housing; you won't be able to remove the switch in this case. Remove the entire motor and take it to a professional for repairs.
