To upgrade the firmware you will need to download the newest firmware from this site: http://panasonic.jp/support/global/cs/bd/download/bd30/index.html and burn it onto a cd. If you can't or don't want to burn the cd it looks like they will can send a copy of it to you.

Dmp bd30 will not play normal. It will only play regular DVDs.

Unfortunately the problem is in the laser pickup assembly, the Blu-Ray DVD requires a higher velocity and precision to play this type of disc and is the first to fail. The only solution is to replace the DVD Player rather than have it repaired, far cheaper in the long run.

Want to know if radio shack makes a handheld scanner that can be used to track dogs

No. Dog tracking systems operate in the 216 to 220 MHz range, frequencies that are allocated to Amateur radio and telemetry/radio location, and scanners do not cover these frequencies. Even if you could receive the signal, all you would hear is digital hash/noise that would not give you any tracking/location information. The tracking systems only work with their dedicated receivers/display units.

Cd player

If you have already tryed to clean the lens on the laser pick-up assy. Then that ticking is the tracking coil trying to track on the right track. Theres several alighnments that may need adjustment, but you need to have special alighment jigs and tools. Sorry but there are no user serviceable parts inside this unit. your gonna need to take it in for repair or buy a new one. Sorry i couldnt help more.
