In that case the power board is completely fried - it's unfixable, replace it.

My 42" samsung plasma sparked after a lightning strike near by. I know for a fact the power board is no good. How do I test the other components?

Without any power; how can? Just replace the power board, and then check further. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Pull up older posts.

Why won't either of two plasma TVs turn on after lightning struck a tree?

Fault with the main power supply regulator section. Either it will be on a separate board, or on the part of its main board. Check and replace damaged component/s at its main power regulator [SMPS] section circuit. Contact any service technician. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Surf the site with patience. Pull up older posts.

It will be best to replace the power supply regulator board as card basis rather than making "Surgery" to it; which usually will make loss for both money and time. Even though you can make it right, it will cost around an amount equal to the cost of a new board; including the cost of (spare parts + service charge) More to say, most of the spare parts to it will be difficult to get from open electronic spare part market. This is true to most of the flat panel TV power supply boards; irrespective of its brand and screen size.

No power light

Power supply regulator board is faulty. Check the fuse first. If found burned out, replace the power supply board. Normally there is no repair to power boards to LCD or Plasma TVs.

Turn on tv and get full screen but after 5 minutes half the screen starts to scramble then goes blank leaving me with half ascreen

I would suspect your power supply deflection board is failing. Normally these tvs have a problem with the hyper board in which the image is scrambled and then clears up. Your problem is just the opposite and indicates a part is heating up on the power board. A good visual look at the board will be your best starting point. Look for burn marks, a capacitor that is rounded on top or leaking. Also look carefully to ensure your CRT bulbs have not leaked fluid onto one of the boards.

It's a starting point.

I have a Westinghouse 32"

These TVs are notorious for backlight inverter problem. You could look for a complete backlight board(this will be easier if you're not a tech), or you can replace the transformer and transistor(transistor doesn't always go - sometimes you get lucky). The transformer that is bad will have a small burn mark in it where one of the legs comes up from the board. If I was you I would just replace the board since it's easier. I have done about a half dozen of these. Joe

My 50 inch philips plasma tv wont come on. all it does when you turn on the power is that the blue light comes on like usual and you hear a relay click and then a few seconds later you hear a relay clickin...

There are a few common gotchas for all plasma TVs:

Most commonly, a sustain board overheats and burns out; sometimes that prevents the TV from powering and sometimes it does not.
Unfortunately I don't know enough about your particular model to tell in which category it falls.

Second, the power board either breaks too (sometimes as a result of a sustain defection) or filter capacitors on it dry out and prevent the board from powering on properly. This, in turn, is detected by the protection circuits on the power board itself and treated as a short circuit, thus shutting down the board to prevent further damage.

In my experience 80% of the time the problem you describe is caused by burned ZSUS board and 20% are due to defect power board.

As I said earlier when a sustain burns out it sometimes takes down the power as well. Which is to say do not presume that just one board has gone bad.

One of these days I am planning to post a DIY troubleshooting guide for plasma TVs at my site http://www.coppelltvrepair.com .

It's easier than many people think.

For example in your case I'd try to power off the ZSUS board - the one on the right side of the TV when you watch from the back - and turn it on again. If it powers on then the problem is in the ZSUS board.

In fact, there are quite a few such guides circulating around the net.

The problem ,of course, is that it takes time to understand and apply them properly.

Unless you have a lot of time to kill or a desire to enter the field of TV repairs it's usually better to just pay off a good technician.

Developing the qualities to find a good specialist is a challenge well worth the time and will pay many times in life.

The same can not be said very safely for the qualities of repairing plasma TVs :-)

AKAI LCT2715 will not turn on gives blinking

This series of TVs has a famous issue with the power board (part number MLT166A or similar). Several capacitors and zener diodes burn out causing some resistors to burn as well. If you are capable of doing component level repairs check capacitors on the board and zeners Z2, Z3, Z4, Z5 and resistors around them. If you prefer to spend hundred bucks and simply buy the working power board for it - ebay is your answer.

Tv doesn't turn on, just bink a red led light seven times

Replace your Tvs convergence board. Go to www.partstore.com, and check for your current TVs model number. Check for its convergence board, and simply install it by carefully removing the old board that looks just like your old one, and replace the cables where the cables for the old ones were. In many TVs, the cables are gray, blue and 3 multicolored sets, which go to connectors marked blue, green and red. The gray and blue go where the gray and blue cables for the old board were. For the multicolored ones, just replace them where the previous ones were placed, marked blue, green and red. All you need is a screwdriver and about 30 to 45 minutes.
