Question about Actiontec GT704WG Wireless Router (gs583ad3-01)

Moved router and lost Intenet signal, makes no sense.

This makes no sense. This router has been working fine. We unplugged and moved it today to a different (phone-working) jack in the house. (We have Verizon DSL) Plugged it in to a new desktop PC, all the lights started working, except, NO INTERNET CONNECTION. Power OK, Port #1 hooked to PC and lit, Wireless transmission OK, DSL Icon is blinking. But, no light on Internet Icon. Also, we then tried it in other jacks throughout the house, and it won't get an internet signal at any--even the original one where it worked this morning! Called Verizon, they want to send someone out, they can't figure it out. Could this unit just have crapped out?

Thank you Steve! We ended up having to call in a technician; I had a feeling it was their issue (Verizon). He went down in the cellar, & did some hocus-pocus voodoo. Then came back and re-booted and we had a signal again. Go figure.

Hi, this does sound strange, i havent come accross this before but it does sound like that the router may have died, but, did you unplug the phone line from the router before you removed the power plug? as what may have happend is that when you pulled the phone line plug it might have shorted out as this line does also have power going through it as well, does that sound right to you? or as you say it may have crapped out when it was moved, some items of electronics do get verry tetchy when moved if left allone for a long time in one place, it might have just been a matter of time that it when anyway also, have you tried reseting it? there should be a reset button on it hold that in for 15 seconds and it will be restored to factory settings and you have to input your information back in try that first before chucking it out the window lol if it dosent then chuck it out the window, sorry was joking not realy dont i could get in trouble...hope this helps

I have the router right by my PC, it appears connected but no signal strength at all (no bars) what is wrong?

try changing the wireless channel on the router and see if that makes any difference.

Open the setup page of the router.
Go to wireless tan and change the standard channel to 11. save the settings.

You can also try updating the drivers of the wireless adapter on your computer.
If your router is too old then you must upgrade the firmware on the router.

Worked fine for a year, suddenly it's busted

I came across the same trouble after several hours power out of the router (has to move DL-524 from room shelf to closet). In my case it lost WiFi security configuration (was no encryption and must be WPA/PSK). I set WPA back, 64-byte PSK key was not corrupted, and Dl begun to run smoothly again. After that I got an experiment and powered off Dl for a night, WiFi security settings was lost again. My be it's a feature of the device, may be I'm (we are) not so lucky :). Try to check "Wireless setup" - hope it'll be helpfull...

Wireless router dropping then disappeared

If other wireless hosts are connecting to the wireless router with no problem, and the windows laptop intermittently connects, then this seems to indicate a problem with the wireless card in your windows laptop. If the device is still under warranty, it should not be a problem to contact the laptop vendor and have it replaced.
