Question about GE 24 in. GSD5500G - Multiple Color Built-in Dishwasher

Not draining water

I have a GE model GSD5500G00BB dishwasher . Recently there is water left in the bottom of the diswasher at the end of the cycle ( about 2 inches). I manually removed the water and examined the screen and the float , both appeared to be clean. I ran the washer on different cycles, unloaded, and still had water remaining.
I made sure the discharge hole to the garbage disposal was not clogged.
This is a new problem, I had the unit for 7 years problem free.
any other suggestions?

You need to replace the piston assembly check valve (see http://www.repairclinic.com/SSPartDetail.aspx?s=t-gsd5500g-%3d%3di821081&PartID=821081). This part is beneath the rear filter frame. You then twist it out. In my dishwasher the little rubber valve piece had completely disintegrated. That allows water to be pumped back into the dishwasher rather then being emptied out the drain house. I replaced the little rubber piece with a piece of plastic cut from a milk jug bottle cap. My first attempt wore out after about a year. I just replaced it again. Works like a champ. Or you can just order the part you need from repairclinic.com

Dishwasher stops mid cycle

Hi,

Do the foll. things:

1)Check if there is water on the bottom pan. Remove the panel down on the backside of the machine and look. If it's water there, wipe it well up with a towel or so. 2)if ur dishwasher doesn't starts then: First, check the usual suspects: Make sure the circuit breaker isn’t tripped and that the wires at dishwasher’s power junction box aren’t burnt. If all that checks out, then go right to the control panel area.
Asko dishwashers have had problems with the wiring in the control panel area burning or melting– very messy. While your problem may not be as dramatic as that, the problem may still be visible. You may find burnt or discolored wire terminals or the spades on the start button switch may be burnt– anything burnt or discolored has to be replaced. You can buy any replacement parts you need right here.

Goodluck,

Standing water in dishwasher

This is because you have a problem with the diswasher pump and/or pump motor. There should NO water standing at end of cycle.

Water remains in diswasher

HI. check the following areas for fualts.

1. Air gap / Drain hoses
If there is an air gap (located in the sink, near the faucet), check to see if it is clogged. Unscrew the top cap and see if there is anything blocking inside. Note: If there is no air gap installed, the dishwasher might not drain properly.

If the drain hose is clogged, the dishwasher would not drain. If there is an air gap installed, it is very common that a hose going from the air gap into the garbage disposer is clogged. Remove and clean the hose. Make sure to reattach the hose before starting the dishwasher.

Note: If you recently had a garbage disposer installed, it is common to overlook removing the drain plug.

2. Broken belt
Some dishwasher models use a belt to drive the pump. Replace the belt if found broken.

Note: Sometimes the belt would just come off the pump. Even though it might not be broken, it is recommended that you replace the belt, because it is probably too stretched out.

3. Pump
Some models have two impellers inside the pump - one, wash impeller, takes care of the wash cycles, the other, drain impeller, drains the water out. If the drain impeller is broken (broken blades, shaft), the dishwasher would not drain. Replace any broken pump components.

4. Drain solenoid
Some models (for example most GE dishwashers) use a drain solenoid to drain water out. Sometimes the solenoid gets stuck, preventing the water from draining out. Try to free up the solenoid. If unsuccessful, you might have to replace the pump assembly.

5. Motor
If the motor is stuck, it is sometimes possible to free it up by manually spinning the motor.

Replace the motor if defective.

6. Timer
Replace if defective (note: uncommon problem).

Water didn't drain, left in bottom of washer tub

I had similar problem and it ended up being a clog at the point where the drain hose meets the garbage disposal. I had to unhook the hose and clean out the food that had accumulated (horrible smell). You may have to stick a screwdriver into the garbage disposal hole where the hose fits and clean the food out there also. Then put the hose into a bucket and run a few cycles to ensure the hose is free.

Water is left in the cavity beneath the base filter

water under the filter is normal. Most diswashers do not drain completley- this acts as an air lock to prvent odours coming thru the drain hose

You will have to test the solonoid electrically now its probably getting juice and the solonoid may have failed. You can get just the solonoid ot the entire pump assy for a little more.
