Have a nearly 30-year old Akai stereo receiver AA-R30. Power light just stopped turning on. Opened up case and found main fuse between AC power cord and power transformer blown. When I replace the fuse, it blows instantly. Have repair manual. Does this indicate the power transformer needs to be replaced? If so, how can I possibly find a replacement?

Assuming it is the power supply transformer, where could  I get a replacement?  It is listed as 'power Transformer T-1-360, Akai part number ET703802.  Are there parts suppliers for such an old unit?

Look for shorted output transistors or possibly shorted rectifier diodes. An immediate fuse blowing up usually means that the power supply is the problem. Keep us posted.

You are not likely to find a distributer that would have parts for a unit that old. Your best bet is to look on Ebay or post your request in a few forums. Some people (like me) hold on to old stock for these reasons. (No, I don't have one of these for you.)

    Good luck.

    P.S.

I doubt the transformer is the problem anyway. That would be extremely rare, even for an old unit.

Where are the fuses located in onkyontx-sv525- only found 1 at power in

If you pulled the cover and only see one fuse, and if it is not blown, then you need to search deeper for the problem. All replaceable fuses on the main board are viewable.

I have a pioneer DTS 96/24 multi-channel SX316 that just stopped working. Is there a fuse to try and replace? If so, where.

Remove the top cover and follow the mains cable into the unit. Any fuses should turn up near that. Make certain the power cord is out!

Receiver keeps going to standby

I don't know about the newer receivers but this sounds like an arching OFF/ON power switch that was a problem on Pioneer receivers years ago. I would bypass the switch and see what happens.

1. Unplug unit from wall.
2. Jumper two wires going to off/on switch using alligator clip with insulated boots on clips.
3. Plug amplifier into disconnected circuit breaker/fuse protected AC strip.
4. Plug AC strip into wall outlet, turn AC strip switch ON and see if problem disappears.

Akai pt5492 shut off by itself this morning, wouldn't turn back on. This afternoon I turned tv on and the red timer light came on, no picture, no sound. Checked batteries, unplugged and plugged in a...

First is the Akai name is owned by Samsung--and here is a general answer:

Red light is shutdown or means only standby light is on.

I see so many here with no sound/nopicture issues:

ISSUES:

1. IF sound main fuse/s are good.
2. If no power or standby check main fuse, standby power supply and any signsof damage you can see---burnt parts etc.
3. almost all these sets the troubleshooting involves checking voltages on the main power board to narrow down theproblem.
4. Be safe and if you do not know what you are doing don't open the set.

Answers to issues:

1. RE:fuses---if a blown fuse is found get a good replacement(not the genericones like Radio Shack). Many fuses are special even aside from amperage--Don'tput a higher rated amperage fuse in the set for any reason.

2. RE: power supply in set: if total dead aside from main fuse the set uses astandby power supply that runs 7/24 and a main supply (some are combined andsome not.

Here aside from checking fuses you want to examine all the filter caps on thepower/standby to see if any are puffed up or buldged up in some fashion--Iattach a photo of a good one---top should be silver metal and PERFECTLY flatand have no brown material coming out on top or bottom.

What happens in the standby area is they use caps with too low a voltage rating(saves money) which causes them to fail in a year or two---the standby runs7/24 and the heat dries out the caps and they fail.

3. Trouble shooting consists of the above and then at some point you have tobuy and try a board to see if it fixes it or not.

4. Safety first--no TV set is worth getting injured or even killed over.

I have an Akai AA-A45 receiver. The display panel lighting is not working otherwise the unit works fine. Any ideas?

in that receiver ther is a fuse that controls the display, I have the same unit, there are 4 fuses by the power supply, it would be one of those, I cant remeber which one but if the fuse is blown it will turn of the entire display. Check that out and if thats not the problem, then there is a short in the unit.

I purchased a JVC LT52X579 March 30/09. The TV would phase out by itself and then restart by itself. Some times it would remain on and could be cut off only by unplugging it from my sudge protection...

Hi,
Please unplug TV from wall socket for couple of minutes, replug back in and turn ON.
If still does not power up, try it in another wall socket.
Also check standby/ power light flashing or its solid at TV.
If standby light is flashing or its not lit then TV got power supply problem and requires qualified TV tech. I hope TV is still under warranty so ask for warranty cover to store.
Thanks.

Won't power on

Our VSX-515-S quit suddenly while playing when it was turned up quite loud. The power would not come back on. I disconnected it, and opened it up. No fuses were blown, but there was no voltage in the power supply. When I pressed the on button, I could hear a very faint click, but no power. I even took some parts out and replaced them.

I went on line and bought a service manual download for $7.95.

Within 5 minutes, I found where the service manual said if there was a DC overload, the power would cut off. To reset, press the ENTER + ADVANCED SURROUND key simultaneously and hold for 3 seconds.

I did this and the power came back on. It even remembered the last FM station it was tuned to. Problem s.olved
