You need to call a qualified service to repair your microwave oven, this is not an option.
Standing on your posts seems like you did not perform any similar maintainance operacion on such an appliance before.
The Microwave has a sensor, and a door protective grid preventing electromagnetic waves from being radiated, .
If you do not mount one of the parts correctly you will have high intensity radiations throughtout your place.
Darect exposure to microwave radiation from microwave causes Leucemia, skin cancer, brain tumor, and other DNA related fatal illnesses.
This is not an appliance you can play with. If you mount the door or the sensor wrongly you die.
Get a new oven or find a repair point.
Hello Mapachi,
The switches have no relation with actuating the lever or opening the door. They seem to be just sensors.
Well, I guess the only way to actually find out what the problem is, is
by actually disassembling the door panel and find out what is wrong. It
could be a bit of broken plastic from the lever or the button that is
obstructing the proper working of the button-latch assembly, or even
just a faulty spring. If you think you can handle this, then go ahead
and open it up. You can find the assembly unit diagram in THIS document. In
my opinion, it is always better to get a qualified technician to do
this, especially as microwaves can be dangerous, and if the job is not
done properly, it could prove hazardous.
Anyways, if you decide to open it up yourself, and find out the cause, you can go to THIS excellent website for the parts required, or your local dealer/point of purchase. Hope this helps....
P.S. Before you assign a rating, please make sure that the issue is resolved. If it isn't, please post back as to what you did, and/or any other questions and we will try to assist you further. Is the button not fully there meaning could a piece be broken off of it that hits the lever to open the door.
Could it be possible for you to take a couple of pictures of the mechanism for me since it would be much easier to maybe see why exactly yours is having this problem while everything looks fine.
Thank you for using Fixya

Hello Mapachi
I made a phone call and after a few transfers, got the following information. I'm told this is the only information they (Kitchen Aid) offer for this microwave oven. (I'd ask for a service manual but they said this was all that was available.)

The last digit of your model number is a "zero" and not the letter "O".

I copied it right off of the downloaded exploded view of the microwave from the Kitchenaid web page and I see that I gave you the wrong number. Here is the one off of the microwave:

Sorry for the confusion!
I copied it right off of the downloaded exploded view of the microwave from the Kitchenaid web page and I see that I have given you the wrong number. Here is the correct one from the inside of the microwave:

Well, When I press on the door release button, the door will not open. I have the microwave open now and I can open the door by actuating the release lever internally, so what is causing the button to not actuate the release lever? Everything appears to be in their correct places. ????????????
aren't these switches there to be certain that the door is closed before the microwave is turned on??? Or do they actually actuate the latch itself???
