Question about Maytag Neptune MDE5500AY Electric Dryer

What is small blue plastic wheel?

While changing the belt on our maytag neptune dryer we noticed a small plastic blue wheel like thing in the bottom of our dryer. Its chewed up, possibly melted a little and difficult to tell exact shape. It looks like it could have possibly fallen off the drive motor? Any ideas on what it is and how much its needed? After replacing belt dryer seems to work fine.

The small blue wheel, just next to the Motor, is the tension pulley, your belt should go around it, before going around Drum

The small belt in the middle of the drum broke. After I pulled the drum off I noticed a small plastic wheel on a metal bracket loose in the bottom of the dryer. I can not see where this reataches and I...

its called an idler arm, it attaches next to the motor as this is what keeps tension on the belt so it will stay tight on the drum. If I remember correctly there is a slot on the bottom of the dryer close or right next/past the motor, slide it into that slot, with the small plastic wheel up next to/by the motor. I am attaching a diagram for the belt it will help. Good Luck and I hope I helped Tim:

Remember the belt should ride in the middle of the drum and the back of the drum is lipped and should go behind the drum rollers. Once the belt is thread it will be tight and the idler arm will not longer be loose.

Loud banging noise in dryer (maytag). Have taken dryer apart. don't know how to tell if drum rollers, belt, and blower wheel are okay. Don't know what else could be causing loud noice.

the most common culprit of banging is an uneven spot on one of rollers. It may not be really noticable, but a slight flat spot can form on them.

Maytag Neptune Dryer -5 years old squeeks Now it wont start.

There are four small plastic guide wheels that surround the drum in order to keep it aligned. These will wear after a period of time. The wheels have no bearings, they just ride on a metal shaft. You may either try lubricating the rollers or replacing them. Thank you, Dana

The dryer will not tumble

do you hear any humming noise? does the heat come on? noise. most likely is a thermal fuse....small white fuse usually with two blue wires. humming means broken belt, bad motor or something stuck in blower wheel.

Dryer only heats in the timed setting not automatic setting

I fixed the dryer. I stopped at Thomas Appliance in Grand Blanc, MI and asked them if they knew which connection the wire went on. A service tech there said that usually there is only one choice and to look close. I did and he was right. I hooked the blue wire opposite of the ground and tested the dryer. It worked fine.

Maytag Neptune Dryer smells like burning rubber or plastic...

The drum belt could be rubbing on something inside. Does the dryer make a squeeking noise? Se if there are small rubber particles on the bottom, this will indicate a deteriating belt.

Changing the drum rollers on a Maytag MDE4000AYW Neptune Dryer..

The instructions above are perfect for most Maytag Dryers, but the Neptune MDE4000AYW is built differently from most. To open it, undo the two screws that run through the door hinges, and remove the door, then undo the two other screws that are on the opposite side of the doorway. With these four screws out, you can lift the front panel UP and out. Make sure you unplug the dryer first :-)
