Amp comes on then shuts down JL 500/1

Amp was working fine, Now its coming on and shutting down. Is it overheating, or protection mode? I've doubled checked my remote, ground and power wire, and its all good. If damaged where do i send it for repairs? Thanks Jim

What do you have hooked up to it? Subs, Speaker, so on. it sounds like it is going into protection because of improper wiring... or it was improperly wired. if it is malfunctioning you need to take it to an authorized JL audio dealer. It's going to cost some cash unless you have a warranty on it and it was installed by a liscensed technician.

My amp gets shutting down after working a few hours and get restarted automatically, why is it so? Thanks in advance, Anoosh K.A

Because your amp is overheating. The transistors are attatched to the heatsink inside the amp. Alongside these transistors is a sensor that shuts down the amp when it reaches a certain temperature. A very easy repair. Clean up the old paste and add new thermal paste.

Have a jl audio 500/1 the red light blinks and no other light turns on. whats the problem with it?

I think you might have your remote turn on from your deck to amp hooked up wrong check that out!! I not are you familliar with the mr. butterworth crossover JL developed for that series of amp? Just like its big nrother the 1000x1 class D the built in smart crossover has many built in pretect modes. If your subs are drawing to much power it shuts down if they draw to little of ohms or to many but that 500 is 1 ohm stable so download the crossover settings from JL and go from there

I have a jl500/1 amp that is about 8 or 9 years old. Bought it brand new and it has worked fine. My receiver just screwed up and my volume went to max for about 10 seconds. The amp shut down and now when...

yes the amp can be blown and not show protect. I do warranty work for JL Audio. Have you tested your subs to see if they are ok? If they are then something internally is stopping the amp from working. I repair amps very cheaply to help out fellow car audio enthusists. I am the cheapest in the US. If you have not figured this out yet and want it repair let me know. Send me a message.

I HOOKED EVERYTHING UP CORRECTLY BUT THE AMP WOULD ONLY STAY ON GOR ABOUT 20SECONDS THEN IT WOULD SHUT OFF. AFTER THAT WE TRIED ANOTHER AMP AND THAT ONE WOULDNT SHUT OFF. WHAT WOULD BE THE PROBLEM?

If the amp is a JL 500/1v2, it has a sensing switch which enables it to sense voltage, instead of running a remote wire. If this switch is set to on, and you have a remote turn on wire running to the amp........this can happen. I own one of these, and made that mistake myself.

My amp cuts out at higher volume

This happens to me all the time during the warm months. The problem is likely that the amplifier is overheating because of location. If not properly ventilated, the amplifier will shut off before damage occurs. Is it located under a seat or other area where sufficient air flow is lacking? I solved this problem by moving my amplifier from under a seat to the trunk area.

JL Audio 500/1 Amplifier "Thermal" light flashing

Re-check all the connections to the speakers, The uPC monitors all the outputs and if any are taking more power than they should, the uPC shuts the amp down to protect the internal components. Don`t use tape joints alone, try to run the cable the full length without any joints. If you do have to piece the wires together, solder them and stagger the connections, in other words, make one lead shorter than the other so that if the tape does come off, the offending connection is well away from the other so they can never meet or connect to each other. Jl 500/1 no output audio

You can send it to JL Audio and they will fix the output stage you toasted and will also perform any mods or upgrades to bring it up to spec. This will set you back $ 180.00 plus shipping cost to send it to JL. I know it's expensive but you damn near get a whole new amp to rock your world. mark..
