Hello.

Carefully remove the top covers to reveal the print head following the arrows on the covers (you may need a flathead screw driver to carefully unfasten the covers.

There is a device that slides back and forth that serves as a squeegie for the printhead. When you turn the printer on and off it should move. If it tries to move but does not, then this is most likely the cause of the error and is either stuck due to debris such as a piece of paper or more likely gummed up with old ink. If you then nudge the mechanism gently while turning on the printer, it should start to move. You will then need to clean it so that the mechanism does not get stuck again.

If this suggestion does not work, please provide the model number of your printer.

Hope this helps.

    Hi NinaE,

I can move the print head holder by my hand. My printer model is Canon PIXMA MP780. It is showing "check printer press OK". I did,but printer still keep showing samething. I can not find place to unfast cover

    Hello, again.

    Give this a try:

    Try resetting the printer:

1- On the operator panel, press and hold the
On/Off button for 10 seconds. (The display will go blank.)

    2- Unplug the
power cord. Wait 30 seconds and plug it again.

    3- Press the On/Off button
    again.

4- Wait until the device has completed its cycling process before
    submitting another job request.

If this does not resolve your problem, you probably have a hardware issue.

The print head is not designed to be moved manually and damage may occur if you try to do so forcefully.
To center the print head to replace ink tanks and to replace/remove print head you should do the following:
1. Make sure power is turned on and open the Paper Output Tray gently. 2. Lift the scanning unit (cover) until it stops. Lift with document cover closed. The print head holder should move to the replacement position (center).
Do not force print head holder to move nor touch it while it's moving. These parts are very delicate and generally are made mostly of plastic.
IMPORTANT If the Scanning Unit (Cover) is left open for more than 10 minutes, the Print Head Holder moves to the right. In this case, close and reopen the Scanning Unit (Cover).

Lift the gray lever then remove the print head along with the cartridges
Bring down the gray lever then close the cover
Plug the printer again and stand by until it warms up

Where is the serial number on a Canon Pixma MX870?

The serial number is located on the guide for the print head holder. Open the cover, as if your going to change the ink. To the right of the print head holder (where the ink goes), on the guide that moves the holder back and forth, there is a white label with the serial number. The number starts with four letters and ends with five numbers.
