Your best bet is a good standard definition camera like the Canon GL2, unless you're specifically in need of high definition, in which case the Canon XH-A1 performs wonderfully.
I recommend buying from a known source like B&H Photo and Video, and avoiding potentially grey market cameras.

I lost the cd of my hitachi dz-mv380a ntsc and need to install it at my lap top.please help me to get its software including its driver.thanks.

The company upgrades original software for new computer operating systems, but does not provide downloads of their software. My solution was to purchase a second camcorder for parts that included the original software. I may have to purchase a third camera because of a malfunctioning disc assembly on both my camcorders.

We have an Sony Video 8 AF. Camcorder is not working. Can and What can we use to transfer the movies we have taped to a more modern format?? Is there a cable or can you recommend a professional who can...

You can take your tapes to a video transfer service and get them to transfer to DVDs. Any large metro area will have these services but if not, you can mail off the tapes to a known service. Look online (google) for a reliable service with BBB rating and customer testimonials. Look locally first.

You may find a working Sony 8mm camcorder on your local Craigslist.com or at a Goodwill store or other second hand outlet or in the newspaper ads or online but that is unlikely since they are so dated. Remember that a Sony Hi8 camcorder can also read 8mm tapes so if you can find one of those for $50 to $80, they would read the tapes.

Lastly you could repair the camcorder but it may not be worth the cost. Local electronics repair shops may be able to fix the camera.

usb won't work for video-you need to purchase a firewirecable to stream video from a mini dv camcorder-always a 4 pin connection on cam side-can be 4 or 6 on computer end-4 on laptops and sonys-6 on macs and desktops-usb is only for still pics or to use as a webcam

I need game film

Greetings bayless,

It would depend on what type of connection you have on your computer and video camera. The most common way to transfer video from camcorders is to utilize a firewire cable from the camcorder to the computer. You will need to be sure your computer has a firewire card also. Record the video onto your computers hard drive with a digital video program, while keeping in mind that video is rather large before being burned onto disc, so make sure you have plenty of hard drive. Then edit, and burn to a disc.

Another option is to purchase a unit you directly hook your camcorder to and burn with this unit if you do not want to use your computer.

I hope this helps.

Thank you,

Dorothy

Disk will play on the camcorder only

Hello, I can watch and enjoy my DVD on the camcorder only.
I have finalized it, but when I take it out to play on my laptop or any computer it doesn't work. It says it is blank, but I know it isn't because when I put it back in the camcorder it works fine.
I have also tried connecting the camcorder to my computer and I still can't get any of the video off. Please help!
