Question about ASUS P5LD2-VM Motherboard

1 Answer

BSOD on XP64 fresh install

My Maxtor Sata 160GB HD started clicking and then stopped booting up all together. I bought a Western Digital Caviar 16 MB cache 500GB SATA II HDD. When I try to boot up from the Windows XP64 CD to do a fresh install I get the BSOD. Someone told me I need to get the Sata drivers for this motherboard and install them under the F6 "install 3rd party plugins" section. The problem is I dont have that disk and I couldn't find any such drivers on the web.
Any Suggestions?

Can't seem to install WinXP. Once I get a boot from the XP CD (really hard case) it will start the install, but the exact same BSOD comes up, and the install fails. Very frustrating.

Can you see the HDD in the BIOS? This particular board is new enough to where you shouldn't need to load separate drivers for the installation..

What blue screen are you getting? Can you post the STOP codes?

it's a bit out of focus but should be ledgible. I don't think it's seeing it in the BIOS either. I will confirm tonight when I get home from work.

have you gone into bios (hold "delete" at start-up) to change the boot order and primary boot device to the cd drive? if you have done so, what you have to do is make a custom windws install cd with your raid controller drivers on it.

Bad install, most likely related to the default drivers (since it can run in Safe Mode) - either something was corrupted during the process or the disk itself is busted. Try installing with another disk.

You need to go to ASUS to get a bios update. Since your board only appears to support SATA 1, it probably has the older bios that tops off at about 380mb. drives. (I don't think that a bios update will give you Sata 2 as that is hardware limited)

Gigabyte 945 gzm s2 doesn`t recognize HDD Western Digital 320 GB

You might need to change your bios settings from ide to sata. Have you already checked the bios settings? If everything is in order you might have a bad board. What have you tried so far?

Epox motherboard and SATA disk

According to the hard drive manufacturer Maxtor, motherboard host controllers using the VIA and SIS chipsets VT8237, VT8237R, VT6420, VT6421L, SIS760, SIS964 found on the ECS 755-A2 manufactured in 2003, do not support SATA 3 Gbit/s drives. To address interoperability problems, the largest hard drive manufacturer, Seagate/Maxtor, has added a user-accessible jumper-switch known as the Force 150, to switch between 150 MB/s and 300 MB/s operation.[9] Users with a SATA 1.5 Gbit/s motherboard with one of the listed chipsets should either buy an ordinary SATA 1.5 Gbit/s hard disk, buy a SATA 3 Gbit/s hard disk with the user-accessible jumper, or buy a PCI or PCI-E card to add full SATA 3 Gbit/s capability and compatibility. Western Digital uses a jumper setting called "OPT1 Enabled" to force 150 MB/s data transfer speed. OPT1 is used by putting the jumper on pins 5 & 6. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Serial_ATA
