Yes, it's possible to use the monitor to frame pictures.

Are you saying nothing happens when you press the LV button? Then when is the higher delay occuring?

Or are you saying that once you're in LiveView the delay seems higher when you press the shutter button? This is normal, as the camera has to flip the mirror down to focus and meter, then flip the mirror up as normal to take the picture. This happens even in manual focus and manual metering.

Having received no response in over a month, I assume this is no longer a problem.

You must check the shutter speed before actually pressing shutter button completely if it is fast or slow.

Nikon D90 live view not working

The manual only gives the obvious things.
Is your battery fully charged.
You can select the time the monitor stays on c2. You even can select Monitor out c4. Check you did not select one of those.
The last thing you could try if nothing of the above works, is remove the battery and after a few seconds put it in again.
Last option, I'm sorry, but you should visit the dealer or Nikon suport center if nothing of this helps.

I just dropped my D90 and wrecked the LCD. It wont show the preview after a picture neither through LV. Is this easily fixed?

Costly repairs.

Save the money & try out Nikon Camera Control Pro 2 from Nikon sites.

Just tethered & get better images.

I cannot get a display on the monitor screen when taking picture. It displays perfectly well when showing reviews of pictures i have taken.

Press the [Lv] button on the back of the camera above the circular cursor pad to activate the LiveView. For more details, refer to the "Framing Pictures in the Monitor (Live View)" section of the manual (page 43 in my copy).

But by pressing LV button, it turned into a video camera.

Actually, the LV button puts the camera into LiveView mode. In this mode, you can still take photographs by pressing the shutter release button. To take videos, press the OK button at the center of the multiselector. Stop recording the same way. To get out of LiveView, press the LV button again.

My Nikon d90 monitor does not display when I turn it on.

By default the D90 is set to use the viewfinder for framing and taking pictures. If you wish to disable that and use the monitor, press the "LV" button on the back just above the multiselector.

The Monitor screen doesn't work when I want to take a photo, I can only see picture through eye piece.

If your screen works in playback mode, the screen and flexible circuit boards are intact. To shoot an image using the LCD screen you must first activate the "live view" function in the setup menu, and then press the live view (Lv) button to view your image on the LCD.

Why is there a delay?? Nikon D90

Sounds like you turned on Exposure delay mode (menu d10). This is similar to the "locking up the mirror" (or somethign) feature on canons.

YOu only need it when you doing a tripod shot with long exposure and you want to minimise absolutly all possibility of shake from the camera its self. Lifting the SLR mirror will cause small shake. Generally you can turn this off (i've felt it ona few times my accident and been confused for a second)
