Re: getting my printer to work
Make sure that the settings for file and printer sharing is enabled on both your computers. If the laptop is connecting to the wireless network of your router, you need to make sure that they can communicate fine. Turn off the firewalls on both computers then set them on the same workgroup. :)

Try hard-wiring your laptop to the router with an ethernet cable as a test and then try printing, if you do not loose connection to the internet then the problem is probably that the printing is hogging your wireless bandwidth. If the same thing happens with loosing connection to the internet try connecting to the internet real quick through another computer that is hardwired, you want to find out if the problem is a wireless one or that affects wired computers also. You might need a driver upgrade, you also might need to upgrade the firmware of the router
If you are planning to install the printer on your laptop. You can go ahead and do so:
Here's the steps: 1. Download the driver on the HP Website: Click here: HP Photosmart C4780 2. Once on the website please select the proper operating system and then click next 3. Click the (+) Sign under the Driver - Product Installation and select the HP Photosmart Full Feature Software and Drivers 4. After the download is complete, You need to install the software driver. 5. Connect your computer and you are good to go.
Note: You can order the printer driver CD on the same website
Press the wireless button on the printer Then press the button that scrolls through the options Until print configuration appears Then print it (the above is just an example - as I do not know your printer)
Now you can install the printer through Windows Printers
Go to Control Panel - Printers Select add printer Select a local printer (top one) and untick automatically detect Next Select create a new port Select HP ...TCP/IP (if exists) If it doesn't exist select Standard TCP/IP Next Next Printer Name: HP Photosmart Port Name: (enter your IP address ie 192.168.0.1 Next And after this not sure - but it's probably: Next then Finish
Now print a test page to the new "HP Photosmart" printer, you just created
If you printer does not have a built-in network card then for the laptop and computer to print via wireless to this printer either then, the printer needs to be connected to a print server or setup as a shared printer. A shared printer is the cheapest and easiest option. Please click on this link and follow my instructions to setup a shared printer :- http://www.fixya.com/support/r3668797-setting_up_shared_network_printer
Your wireless printer might frequently lose its communication with the computer and hence might not print all the documents when you want. Such an issue arises when there is interference in the wireless signals between the printer and the computer. This could be caused by any other wireless device kept in the vicinity of your printer like a cordless phone. Keep all other wireless devices way from the printer set-up to tackle this issue. Also bear in mind that if your system is turned on for hibernation mode then it would disconnect your printer the moment it goes into hibernation. get more help http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Printer-All-in-One-Install-and/HP-Photosmart-C4780-Wireless-Printing/m-p/320321#M19172
Check out this video. You didn't specify which machine has the error box, or if both of them do. I would start with the desktop machine with Windows, and try to get that one working....work with one computer at a time. You may have to have someone remote connect to your computer to help you get it going...but the video is pretty good. It's a different model wireless HP printer, but the instructions are mostly the same. Just the software you download is different.
