If the firmware update still doesn't work, ensure you have a USB key connected to your player. I have the BDP-S350 and Avatar wouldn't work until I connected a USB drive to it. Ensure it is formatted correctly-anything new should work fine.

I have a Sony BDP-S350......the Avatar blue-ray dvd would not work in my I downloaded the latest firmware upgrade (version 21 on Oct 11, 2010), burned the two files to a CD-R disc based on the step-by-step instructions provided by Sony and then inserted the disc into the player. After loading the firmware upgrade, Avatar still would not play. Based on recommendations from this site, I then inserted a brand new 8GB USB flash drive into the back of the unit, tried to play Avatar again and it still wouldn't play, so I kept trying to load the disc by opening and closing the tray, and after the 6th or 7th time, it finally loaded the disc and now I can finally play the new Avatar Blue-ray disc. What a joke, all that hassle for me, a legal purchaser of a blue-ray player and the Avatar blue-ray disc........why do I have to put up with all this nonsense so Sony and 20th Century Fox can combat hackers........hope this post helps others to get their new Blue-ray discs to play. I can only anticipate the day when my model of Blue-ray player will no longer be supported, then Sony will expect to get me back on the gravy train, buying another blue-ray player from them.......NOT! Why should I have to buy a $30 dollar flash drive at my expense to get Blue-ray discs to play in my Sony Blue-ray player?......because Sony cheaped out when building their players and did not install sufficient RAM memory in their units to play the new discs.........this is why a firmware update alone will not fix your why is this my problem? isn' should be Sony's, and they should be sending everyone a proper upgrade to play the current Blue-rays or should send everyone a new player. I bought a Blue-ray player to play Blue-rays, not old regular DVDs......Sony should rectify this since I can't do what Sony said I could do when I bought the player......that being to play Blue-ray DVDs. If you have an older Sony Blue-ray, such as the BDP-S300 or older, these models do not come with a USB flash drive insert at the back of the unit, which means you're already SOL, since as mentioned before, a firmware fix alone will not solve your problems for playing the new Blue-ray discs (such as Avatar)..

You'll need to update the firmware on you Blu-ray player for it to work. They'll be an option in the menu to do this.

SOURCE: Avatar will not play on my BDP-S300 Sony blu ray.

It needs the 5.3 software update. You can download it if you have a PC or be SOL if you have a Mac, in which case it will take 2 weeks for Sony to get it to you by mail.

Mac Blu-ray to iPhone 4,put and play movies on iPhone 4 with Forced Subtitles

I have a Blu-ray disc for Avatar, which is bought from amazon. The BD movie is 1080p with DTS-HD and and THX. I want to play the movie on my new iPhone 4 with forced subtitles. However, there are very few Mac applications for ripping Blu-ray to iPhone 4.
I searched and found Aunsoft Blu-ray Ripper for Mac. I am glad to find that there is option for forced subtitles. In the other word, I could get the subtitles for translating what the unknown language is about. So far, Aunsoft Blu-ray Ripper for Mac is the perfect Mac Blu-ray to iPhone 4 converter. I can easily get the real-time preview for the subtitles on the application, so that I know what I would get before the conversion.
Here is how I use the Mac Blu-ray to iPhone 4 converter to watch Avatar on my iMac with Snow Leopard.
Step 1. Load Avatar Blu-ray to Aunsoft Blu-ray Ripper for Mac.
Run Aunsoft Blu-ray Ripper for Mac as the Mac Blu-ray to iPhone 4 converter, and click the "BD/DVD Folder" button to load Blu-ray movie, which is inserted to the Blu-ray Rom connected with iMac.
Step 2. Choose forced subtitle.
There are several language option after clicking the Subtitle drop-down list, just choose English, or other language you prefer. Then the checkbox for "Forced Subtitles" is activated. Check the box, and the subtitle only displays when the alien speaks.
Step 3. Choose iPhone 4 720p format.
Click the "Format" option and choose iPhone > iPhone 4 H.264 720P(*.mp4) to convert 1080p BD to 720p iPhone 4 with forced subtitles.

Step 4. Rip Blu-ray movie to iPhone 4 MP4.
Click the convert button and the BD to iPhone 4 converter will start converting Blu-ray disc to iPhone 4 MP4 file with H.264 in HD 720p.
You can wait until the conversion is finished, or leave the computer for ripping Blu-ray to iPhone 4. Then connect iPhone 4 to iMac/MacBook Pro, and sync the 720p iPhone 4 videos with iTunes.
I have other DVD movies like The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers and The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, and the Blu-ray to iPhone 4 converter works perfectly with the forced subtitles on the DVD movies. Actually, it could be named as DVD to iPhone 4 converter without any doubts.

Element EDBCO11 + Avatar = problem

Avatar bluray disc uses some super-new technique for copy-protection, which many players don't support yet. If you already upgraded to the latest firmware, you can only contact your dealer and ask them - or wait for even newer firmware.
