Toshiba Satellite M35x-S1142 Turn off problem

My laptop has a slightly different shutdown problem than the others I've read. It starts to boot up, the "Windows starting" blue screen/message appears and even sometimes my Windows wallpaper appears. Then suddenly, the laptop turns off. Instantly. I've suspected a power issue but I can boot into SAFE boot mode and the laptop works fine. This leads me to believe its not a power problem. What about a memory problem?
I've reloaded the HD using the restore disk and I have the same issue. Doesn't appear to be a heating issue. Battery charges fine and I have the same results with or without battery or AC power.

Nothing new was loaded. I tried the boot with 'last good configuration' and that didn't help. I have done a complete restore with the Toshiba CD and still have the problem. That's why I'm leaning toward a hardware problem vice software. I had this problem about a year ago and the restore CD fixed it. Appreciate the suggestions...please keep them coming.

Was something new installed. It's failing during the driver load. You can quick fix it, maybe, by booting and pressing the F8 key, then selecting Last Good Configuration (words of that effect). If that does not work, boot with F8 and trace each driver as it loads. The one it stops on is the one you want to deal with. Boot in Safe Mode again and try to fix the problem. Do you have anything showing up under the Question Mark in device drivers? You may need to deal with the problem on that level also. Cheers.

You need to go into the BIOS (setup) and reset to factory defaults first. This should clear up the issue.

Toshiba doesn't have bios updates atleast not for this model

The m35 is discontinued for some time now and won't be getting any updates. If your laptop is not working well, experiences random freezeups and shutdowns, and you can't boot it properly take a look at this Toshiba m35 motherboard repair manual. This is by far one of the most common problems with the m35 and if this is the case with your laptop, a bios update won't help.

Toshiba m35x-s349 turns on but does not boot

check battery power. Lots of times laptops won't boot if the battery has gone down to low. Probably has just enough charge to turn the machine on but not enough charge to boot the machine.

This can be a few things. first try and cold start it.

1. Take out the battery leave it pluged in. hold the power button for 5 sec. then release. turn on system normaly once in windows shut down. replace battery. turn back on. that should work.

2. You have a bad driver problem trying loading into safe mode hit F12 and select safe mode if it loads with no problem then it could very well be a driver or software problem

3 if nether of them work then you have a hardware problem which could be causing overheating.or just a device going bad.

Toshiba m35x-s163 will not boot

Hi there, you will need to go into the BIOS page (usually the Del key or an Function (F) key at the Toshiba logo). You will need to change the boot order from network/lan to the Hard Drive. Its pretty straight forward mate.

Cheers
