Lawn tractor dies when the clutch/brake pedal is let out.

I have a 17hp craftsman automatic lawn tractor that will start fine but when I let out the clutch/brake pedal it kills the ignition and the tractor dies. It started doing this after being driven over some rough ground and the tractor died while I was driving it. It started back up with the clutch/brake pedal pushed in, but when I let the pedal out it would stop running. I had to push it into the shop and can't find anything wrong with the wiring. Any thoughts are greaty appreciated. Thanks

Craftsman Lawn Tractor 17hp 42 model 917.271662 auto trans idles and bucks when cutting grass

The symptom that you are feeling is that your transmission is not fully engaging correctly. Basically you have a few different things to try depending on the trans that is on your machine. Drain the fluid and re-install new fluid, adjust your brake/clutch to make sure that you are fully disengaged and fully engaged when you release the pedal. If none of those 2 cure your issue then you are looking at a trans rebuild or replacement

I have Craftsman 42" lawn tractor with the automatic transmission. It runs fine but it is not pulling a grade now. The belt seems tight, what could be the problem?

As you attempt the incline grab the clutch pedal with your heel and pull it towards you if it starts pulling correctly you have a belt problem . If it makes no difference you are having hydro pump problems

My craftsman 17hp lawn tractor shutters bad when releasing the clutch pedal. is it the clutch and where is it located?

Its not really a clutch, clutch/brake pedal when pressed will release belt pressure which stops pulley from turn axle. When predded all the way down it mechanically applies brakes. The vibration is from a bad pully that the drive belt rides on or a bad belt. Look for chucks of belt missing. With engine off put on parking brake and manually wiggle each pulley that drive belt rides on to see if there is any play. No play should be present. Good luck.

Tractor Will Not Move And Dies When Brake Is Released

I would check the wires and clean the connectors and make sure seat switch is working. If that is not working, it's like getting off the seat without holding the brake/clutch pedal down or getting off seat with blades engaged. Both will cause engine to die.

Tractor starts fine but wheni take my footh off the clutch the tractor dies

Most of the time its the seat safety switch .
Alway engage and disengage mower deck too as there is a safety switch there too, some times its just needs moved some, its not the clutch pedal safety switch.
