All the basic programs on my extirnal hard have been removed , how i can restore the basic program

Hello Hayhat
Go back to the shop that sold the drive. Take a USB stick and ask them to copy the Passport software back to the USB memory stick.
Most people back up their software prior to formatting the hard drive for use in their computer. Formatting erases all programs but is useful for testing the drive prior to use.

How can i recover data on drive without reformating.

People often feel panic when I see this. If I format the drive, will I lose all my data? If not, how could I get access to my files?

My take is that you may try some data recovery software first, download this one called asoftech data recovery
Windows Data Recovery Software

If does not work, you may have to format (use quick format) the drive and then use recovery software to recover your files. Here's some information about format recovery, think you need to take a look, very useful

Disk Problem - may be wrong FAT version suggets using monitor ro reformat disk. prior screenc showed message regaridng error 6019 (that was before my bosses started fooling with the system)

sounds like hard drive fail. take the hard drive out and put on a PC as a slave setting. if the PC picks it up, if it does go to my computer and check hard drive for faults using windows tools the hard drive should be in FAT32. if it will not read in window or ask's to be formated. it has lost is FAT32 format. now it can be remormatted but you will need a FAT32 format softwear as windows dont use this now in there firm wear. down load the firm wear from dedicated micro web site. and put the 3 files on the hard drive boot folder zip file and another one cannot rember name not dv file think it say or the not pad just the 3 files. put hard drive back in as master again. and turn on it should restart. will take a bit longer as it will be opening the zip file and loading the softwear. when its done then you can sort out the setting in the menu etc for record etc.if hard drive has failed and no repairable format it 2 FAT32 and do as above with 3 files. should be fine then. allso in the site is a manual read this for the setting.... think 6019 is hard drive fault

I have a 2.0Tb Seagate external hard drive that will not record from my Bauhn TV. I have transfered SQ files to it and they play, but requests formatting to record.

To use the PVR record function on Bauhn TV's you MUST "Format" your Hard Drive or USB device as "FAT32" using the formatting options built into and supplied with the said Bauhn TV. There have been relatively recent changes made to the FAT32 formatting system which now allows you to format very large drives to FAT32. These changes were made after requests from manufacturers like Bauhn so that they could incorporate PVR functions into the TV set itself. I run a 1.5 Terabyte Drive with my Bauhn and it performs beautifully. I won't say that I hope this helps because "I know it will" :) Cheers.......
PS: The resultant files will have the extension SQ rather then MGP of FLV etc etc. I can't get these SQ files to play back on my PC albeit that they do play back perfectly on the Bauhn TV. If anyone knows of a program/player that will allow playback of SQ files on PC's then it would be great if you could post it up here.

Included "Start Lacie" file not

Format the drive with win XP or use a third-party HDD software like partition magic.

keep in mind that the choice of a correct file system is very important, "NTFS support volumes up to 16EB" while FAT12 is limited to 32 MB.

Keep me posted!

My drive keeps giving me an error that it is not formatted. How Do i fix this without losing everything on it?

Formatting a new device makes comform with computers requirements during when spaces have least been manipulated. Once formatting were attained on new device, the computer on which was perform on becomes the default resource initiator. During the course of computer to devices productivity, an alteration either as attempting to achive functionality with another computer likely compromises the prior setup structures unless the computer were similarly compartible. However,, once the device has requested to format has several observations. First, disconnecting the device from the computer least would least have caused any mutations only requires to reconnect. Allow the computer to recapture the missing communcation produced.

Unable to access files

To access the files off the hard drive another way - remove the hard drive from the case and connect it to an USB hard drive adapter and then plug it into a working computer's USB port. If the computer see the hard drive as an external hard drive/storage device and you can open the folders and files then backup your data. This also indicated the hard drive is OK and the Western Digital case/electronics is faulty.
To use this as an external USB hard drive, put the hard drive in an USB adapter case.

My SmartDisk 80 gb FireLite hard drive says it is full but it is empty. What could be the reason for this and how would I format it? I use a Macbook pro. I dont want to have to buy a new external...

You will receive an error message when copying a file larger than 4GB to the hard drive if the drive is formatted FAT32. The FAT32 file system has a file size limitation of 4GB. You may also receive an error when backing up to the hard drive using backup software. To correct this problem you will need to format the drive to NTFS. If you are using Windows ME or 98SE, you will not be able to use NTFS.
There are some products that do not support the NTFS files system or changing their file system. If you own a FlashTrax/FlashTrax XT/FotoChute/PhotoBank/USB FireLite XPress, you cannot change the format of the drive to NTFS. It must be kept as FAT32 in order to operate properly. If you are using SOHO NAS via ethernet, do not format it to NTFS. If you have any questions, please contact technical support before you format the drive.

Warning: Formatting a hard drive erases all data from the drive. Please backup any data prior to formatting the hard drive.
To format to NTFS, open My Computer.
1.Right-click on the Verbatim hard drive, left-click on Format.
2.Select NTFS as the File System.
3.Place a check in Quick Format.
4.Click Start.
Once the format completes, you will be able to copy files larger than 4GB to the hard drive.

FORTMATTING A NEW DRIVE

FORMATTING OR PARTITIONING A HARD DRIVE.

Formatting and partitioning a Hard drive will wipe out any and all information. Much like erasing recording tape.
Please be careful when attempting this procedure.
Partitioning a drive usually happens before the formatting process. Any drive can have up to 4 partitions.
Only one partition can be designated as active (the boot partition) one of the 4 partitions can be designated as an extended DOS partition.
When installing an Operation system ie: Windows (OS) The OS will bring you through this process.
However, on the other hand if you have an additional drive installed and you want your PC to see it, depending on what Operating system you have, you must navigate to the "Disk Manager" via the computer manager in the controlsettings of the OS. to see if the drive is recognized by the OS.
If it is, Right click on the drive and request a partitioning of that drive. Once the partition is complete, then request to format. this will configure the drive for the file format ie FAT or NTFS. In most cases NTFS is the format you would select. Additionally, you'll be requested as to the type of drive Logical or extended.
What you'll be doing with the system depends on how you Hard drive (HDD) will be partitioned out.
Remember the boot or active partition is where your OS will be and will be seen first after the PC boots (starts) up.
If you are using the system for home use, one partition is all you'll need. Lastly, you don't need 4 partitions on your PC unless you plan to use separate drives for say... backups, or to consolidate files. A lot of info I know... but if you go with one partition that maybe all you need.
I can't fix this for you, but if I helped you get it fixed, please rate it as a fixya not a helpful rating. These ratings let me be allowed to help you and others in the future. If you need more help, feel free to keep asking, but keep the original information so I can see it.
