1. Shut off the water and remove the lower access/kick panels.
2. Then disconnect the two wires from the inlet valve terminals - note which one goes to which terminal
3. Using an open end wrench loosen and disconnect the water supply line.
4. Remove the two screws securing the valve assembly to the inside wall of the dishwasher
5. Loosen the clamp on the water outlet line and slide off the hose.

Installation is pretty much the same in reverse.
Sometimes the valve assembly comes with the wire terminals oriented in a different direction than what you may find when you take yours off. If it won't work for you, remove the four screws that hold the electrical side of the inlet valve and rotate it to the needed position.
Make sure when putting it back together that you tighten the screws evenly to prevent leaks.

How do I do a Ohms test on water inlet valve for a maytag wc284 dish washer

I have a Maytag WC284 in one of my rentals. It recently would overflow occasionally. This was apparently due to the inlet valve (or fill valve) not shutting off completely. We replaced it with's suggested substitute (154637401). After that it would not fill the bottom of the dishwasher sufficiently. I am betting that the substitute valve is defective or some sludge or mineral deposit has plugged its inlet.

Dishes not coming clean

Check water inlet valve

A dishwasher's water inlet valve is its most common part to fail. When your dishes are not being fully cleaned, quite often a faulty water inlet valve is to blame. Test your dishwasher's water inlet valve, and if it is no longer functioning as it should, you will have to replace it.

Water will not fill the dishwasher, it runs but it will not fill with the water inlet plugged?

Hello there

The most common causes of this problem are a defective water inlet valve or a stuck float switch. The float switch sits under the dish racks and sends a shut-off signal to the dishwasher when the water level is high enough. Make sure you only use a Maytag-compatible replacement if you have to change out your dishwasher's float switch or water inlet valve.
Difficulty: Moderate Instructions Things You'll Need:

  • Owner's manual
  • Screwdriver
  • Scrub brush
  • Replacement parts (if necessary)

project at
  1. 1 Shut off power to the dishwasher from the home's circuit breaker box. Remove the lower rack from the inside of the dishwasher.
  2. 2 Check the water inlet valve to see if it clogged or broken. Replace the valve if you notice any problems and test the dishwasher again. If it still does not fill, proceed to Step Three to troubleshoot the float switch.
  3. 3 Consult your owner's manual to find the location of the float assembly. Remove the cover, if applicable to your dishwasher. There may be retaining screws holding the cover in place or it may just snap off.
  4. 4 Hold both sides of the float while you raise and lower it several times. The float should move freely without binding or catching on anything. Disconnect and use a scrub brush to clean the float if you feel any resistance.
  5. 5 Reattach the float and test its movement again. If it is still not moving properly, replace the float.
  6. 6 Replace the lower rack of the dishwasher and turn the breaker switch back on.

My dishwasher will drain but will not fill up with water ?

Hello there
Specific symptoms include: Little or no water enters the tub . To find the cause, first check to be sure the water is ON.

always “zero” the ohmmeter before making any continuity checks on dishwasher components. . When making continuity checks with the volt/ohmmeter, always turn the electricity OFF at the circuit breaker panel. Live voltage checks will damage the meter movement. With the water ON, remove the lower panel. Place a towel or shallow container on floor to absorb water. Loosen the nut that secures the dishwasher water tubing to the inlet port of the water inlet valve. If water collects immediately in the towel or container, it can safely be assumed that the water pressure is adequate and the plumbing system is not clogged . If little or no water collects in the container, the water line gate valve could be defective or there is a problem in the plumbing system.
Turn the water OFF. Remove the lower panel. Loosen and remove nut that attaches water tubing to water inlet valve inlet port. With tubing removed, check for corrosion and debris that has accumulated inside the tubing and inlet valve inlet port. . Turn the water supply ON. Select a cycle on the timer dial where the dishwasher starts to fill with water. If it starts to fill with water — you fixed it. The problem was corrosion inside the water tubing or inlet valve water inlet port. If the dishwasher still does not fill with water, an additional electrical check will have to be made.Next, test for electrical power to the water inlet valve from the dishwasher timer assembly. Using the volt/ohmmeter, set the meter on the 150-volt scale and attach the two test leads of the volt/ohmmeter to the two terminals of the water inlet valve solenoid coil to be checked. Turn the water ON. With the test leads attached to the solenoid terminals, select a cycle on the dishwasher timer dial where the dishwasher starts to fill with water. Push in or pull out the timer dial. You should get a voltage reading of 110-125 volts A/C on the volt/ohmmeter scale. If you get a reading, this would indicate that electricity is available from the dishwasher timer assembly to the water inlet valve. However, the absence of water flow means the water inlet valve is defective

My maytag dishwasher does not have enough pressure to drive the water through the wands onto the dishes. I have cleaned the screen underneath the bottom wand but this has not increased the pressure enough....

I would check to see if you have enough water in the dishwasher. Let the dishwasher fill with water and set the spray arm in a positoin you will remember where it is.
Take a large pot of hot water and add it to the dishwasher and close the door. Start the dishwasher and observe to see if the spray arm moves.
If it moves you may have to change the water inlet valve. It may be restristing the water flow into the dishwasher.
The water inlet valve is located behind the lower kick panel.(4) screws, Remove the panel and see where the water pipe hooks into the water inlet valve. Remove two wires and two screws. Shut water off and remove the water line going into the valve and the small rubber hose coming out of the valve.
Replace valve and reinstall kick panel.
Hope this helps.

My Maytag mdb 7 dishwasher stopped working on the same day that a Plumber came to our house to fix our toilet. He says he didn't turn off the water anywhere in the house, other than the valve beside the...

If he indeed only accessed the toiled shut off valve, then that would not affect the dishwasher.

Even if dirt/sediment got into the line to the washer somehow, it should be able to be cleared at the inlet valve to the washer.

As to you needing to replace the washer, one would need to determine what the problem is first. It could be a very simple and cheap repair.

If he indeed only shut off the toilet valve, then yes, it would be a coincidence that the washer went out the same day.

If you are on city water, then it is possible that if there is construction nearby or anything that would introduce sediment into the line upline from you, that it could have contaminated the washer.

If your toilet was having problems with water flow as well (thus your reason for calling a plumber) then I would strongly suspect that this is the case.

It is possible that both issues were caused by sediment/dirt from your city water source.

No water comes in to wash dishes.

sorry to sound obvious, but you will have pull the dishwasher out to get to it, just follow the hose into the inlet valve unit, they are located under the unit at the back.

I have a Maytag dishwasher model DWU8860 and it doesn't always fill after a pumpout cycle

It is probably a faulty inlet valve. Check the float switch first.

See here how to locate the parts.

See also this advice for repairclininc:

" There's no water entering the machine If there's no water entering your dishwasher, check these:

Water-inlet valve
Float switch
Water-inlet valve The water-inlet valve lets water enter the machine. If this valve is defective, you need to completely replace it. It's usually located behind the lower access panel on the left or right side. It's the device with the main water line (usually copper) from the house, a rubber tube to the dishwasher, and two wires attached to it.

Float switch The float switch is a small electrical switch that's located right below the dishwasher "floor." Above the switch, on the inside of the dishwasher, is a plastic cylinder that floats up as water fills the dishwasher. If this switch is defective, or if the plastic float gets caught or trapped in the raised position, the water can't enter the dishwasher. If the float switch is defective, you need to replace it.
