Question about Sega Megadrive Black Console

Open Question

Cannot play Sega Mega Drive II on TV

I've found back my Sega Megadrive II console, Europe, Australia & New Zealand version (the one shown here: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/f/fe/SegaMegadrive2.jpg )
I remember I used to play this about 10 years ago, and it had a dedicated channel, which was 17. Now, on that same tv, I have tried it on the same channel, but nothing happens. On none of the channels it shows my game nor on AV/TV. I am sure everything is connected right and the console is turned on like it should, a game is inserted.

I guess it just doesn't play anymore on these days' tv's. Is there anyway to get this console started anyway, on any tv?

SOURCE: sega megadrive 2 never comes to black screen just snowstorm

Ensure that the switch on the back of the unit is set to channel 3 or 4, and that your TV is tuned to this channel. Additionaly, make sure that the rf switch is properly wired in to your television and that no wires have come loose or fallen out.

SOURCE: Sega megadrive 2 that wont load

Just keep fiddling with it. I kept messing with the video cable, where it plugs into the back of the console. I got the "Licensed by Sega, etc." message for a few seconds before it went black again, turned it off, pulled out the cartridge then slammed it back in. Now all of the few carts I own are working with the console.

if your screen is black and you unplug the cable from the megadrive , does the screen go blue ? if so the machine is sending out an a/v signal to the tv and your problem lies with the game cartridge contacts being dirty or the contacts in the slot on the console being dirty , try cleaning the contact strip with some electrical contact cleaner on a cotton bud or small paint brush , hope this helps ,its saved loads of my games

Make sure that you are selecting the right input option, and that your Sega Megadrive is a PAL version.

Sega Megadrive II - cannot connect console to t.v.

Please post a little more info! Can't connect console to TV. Pretty vague. Are you saying you physically are not able to connect it and you need someone else to do it? Does your TV not have the right jacks for the cable you have? Have you already hooked it up and it will not display video. Does the power turn on?

Help! My Sega-Mega CD won't work. The MegaDrive works just fine (I played a game on it just 5 minutes ago) but the Mega CD won't even start. I've set it all up, referred to the manual and reset it and done...

the fuse has probably gone in it, thats a common problem with the sega cd's, you will have to replace the fuse on it, try looking up "sega cd model 2 fuse repair" in google and there should be some info/video's on the net to help you ;) I only know because I have the same problem lol

Ive got a black sega mega drive but cant seem to locate a channel.. am i doing something wrong with the wires

you need to have an old-ish tv...and you need to choose one channel, any one and tune it in...you need to keep going untill you either have a black screen or the game youve inserted..

TURN YOUR MEGADRIVE ON WHILE TUNING

if youve done that and you still dont have it it might be the wire

Just got a Sega Mega drive, connected to my plasma

Most old systems such as Mega Drive will come with an RF adaptor, which plugs into the back of the console and has a coaxial tip on the other end, to connect to the tv.

When you connect the coaxial end to the tv, you connect it to the round coax plug which is where you used to plug in your old cable tv hookup. It also might say Ant. or Antenna.

Turn on your megadrive and use your TVs input selector to change to either "antenna" or "tv" or "cable" input, or until you hit the input which displays your megadrive's signal.

Tip: use your TV's view options to change the input to a 4:3 or "not stretched" aspect ratio so that your old Fullscreen video games will not be stretched out wide on your new widescreen HDTV.

Good Luck!
