With the way surround sound is done it will be low. To be 100% sure swap speakers to be sure there is nothing blown out.
Usually the speakers are set to give a full room surround sound set up and one speaker or zone is set to be softer than the rest.
Also try different movies or other audio. There are also test audio you can download to set the speakers. If your unit allows for separate volume it will be in the owners manual.
I do hope this gets you to where you get satisfied with your sound system. Mine does the same thing but on some movies it will swap and where was soft goes loud.
Thanks

Zone 2 Setup on the RX-V773 using the ZONE2/PRESENCE Extra Speakers The RX-V773 extra speaker terminals can power one set of speakers for Zone 2 or Presence speakers. If the extra speaker terminals are utilized then the RX-V773 cannot be set for Bi Amp (Surround Back/BI-AMP terminals). Setting the Extra Speaker Terminals Note: The RX-V773 remote control will be used to access the On Screen Menu of receiver. 1. Use the Arrow Left & Right buttons on the remote to navigate to Speaker. 7. Press the Arrow Down button on the remote to select Manual Setup. 8. Press the Enter Button on the remote control to enter Speaker Manual Setup menu. 9. Speaker Manual Setup menu with Power Amp Assign highlighted will come up. 10. Press the Enter Button on the remote control to enter Power Amp Assign menu. 11. Speaker Manual Setup, Power Amp Assign menu will come up with Basic highlighted. 12. Press the Arrow Down button on the remote to select 7ch+1ZONE. 13. Press the Enter button on the remote to select 7ch+1ZONE. 14. Press the On Screen button to exit the on screen menu. To control Zone 2 using the RX-V773 remote, the switch at the upper left side (above the BD/DVD Scene button) of the remote must be set to Zone 2. To see the operations on the front of the Yamaha receiver you must press the Zone Control button on the front of the receiver. Note: Only analog signals can be sent to Zone 2. If you want to output the sound from Zone 2, connect an external component to USB Thumb drive, USB iPhone/iPod, Network, AV 5-6 or Audio 1-2 by analog connection. For AM/FM radio the antennas must be attached.

I cant get zone 2 to work on my yamaha rx v673. They are 2 outdoor speakers.. please help

I had a similar problem where I could not increase zone 2 volume - Page 100 in the manual notes that 'power amp assign' must be set to "7 Ch + 1 zone" before zone 2 max volume can be changed. Try that.

Our 2nd zone won't work, we get the error saying check SP wires. The wires seem connected correctly. We also can't change the volume on zone 2. The Yamaha unit is working otherwise.

Hi,

U cant get an amplified out put form ur av receiver for zone 2. speaker a A and B is the same out put of frond left and right. it is not ZONE 2 output. U can get only a pre output for zone to from this receiver. U nee a separate stereo amplifier for using zone 2 .put an amplifier in the other room, connect the zone 2 pre out to it. And do the following setup in ur av receiver .

The receiver shows check speaker cable because its amplifier minimum impedance is 8 ohms . when u connect other speaker in speaker the total impedance will come under 4 ohms. Speaker b is not ZONE 2 in this amplifier

1. press the input selector button A or B to select the source component you want to setup.

2. press and hold LEARN (on remote) button about 3 seconds by using a boll pen or similar object ( SETUP and the selected component name appear alternately in the display window.)

3. press up or down arrow to select "zone2"

4. press LEARN to complete the Zone 2 setup.

5. press source select up arrow to display Zone2 in the window.

6. press an input selector button to select input source u want to listen to in the second room

7. u can control the component by using the component control area button

Yamaha rx-v1600. I am failing in my attempt to get sund out of zone 2 speakers. I have the 2nd zone speakers hooked into surround zone 2/3. In primary zone I only have center and surround back as my fronts...

After 6.5 hours, I am now listening to music outside on my patio using my rxv-1600!
Connect your speakers to the Presence Zone 2(3) output on back. Then power up amp and select zone 2 on front of amp. Nothing will happen, because as I found out, you must route an input to zone 2 or 3. Which is cool, because you can listen to something outside that is different from your inside.
You select what to route to the zone by pressing Zone Control button, just right of zone 2 and 3 button. While you see red zone light blinking, rotate input select knob to prefered input, i.e. radio/cd/aux/etc... also, you can adjust volume by pressing zone control and turning up the volume knob, only while ZONE light is blinking.
hope that helps, i know i was frustrated figuring that out!

I have a Yamaha RX V665 and I am unable to change the volume

The volume keys should be working by default, but you may have volume punch through turned on (meaning the remote is sending signals for TV or CABLE volume function no matter what mode you are actually on). To unlock volume control for AUX mode, do the following:
1. Press and release AUX
2. Press and hold SETUP until the remote blinks twice
3. Type 993
4. Press and release VOL-
The remote should blink four times to confirm unlock.

If you want separate volume control on a different zone you would have to have a separate gain control available, such as with your center and surround channels for example.
If that option is not available and you have only the master volume control for both zones then you could use active speakers connected to the zone 2 preouts, but being able to control the volume with your extra remote with that setup requires more equipment.

Zone 2 volume control

Sounds like the Zone 2 amp was set to external, see below for instructions on setting it back up.
How do I setup Zone 2 on the RX-V661 Using the internal power amp.

Setting the RX-V661 remote control to operate Zone 2
1. Using a ballpoint pen or similar object and press the Code set
button. The Transmit indicator on the remote should flash twice.
2. Using the numerical key pad on the remote and key in 9992, the
Transmit indicator should flash.

You will now need to assign the receivers internal amp for Zone 2.

1. Set the remote control selector to AMP. Selector is on side of remote.
2. Press the Set Menu Button.
3. Arrow down to Manual Setup.
4. Press the Enter button.
5. Arrow to the Sound Menu option and press Enter.
6. In the Sound Menu arrow to Speaker Set and press Enter.
7. Arrow to the EXTRA SP ASSIGN and select ZONE2. This may require using LEFT or RIGHT arrow.
8. Press the Return button to exit out and return to the Manual
Setup.

Yamaha RX-V663 Multi-zone question.

i just got the same receiver like few days ago im still leaning it too,it is a very nice receiver though. here is some settings to help you.
check this to make sure zone 2 is showing in the menu,
on remote
menu, basic setup, speaker set, extra should show zone 2 it might show zone b...presence...or none needs set on zone 2 hit the left a-e/cat button it is weird the right doesnt circle all around? i had to call crutchfield tech for that one(GREAT COMPANY!)so that is for the setting to make sure zone 2 is set up now some to adjust the volume.
menu, manual, options, zone 2 set. here you can set 2 features
max volume( the loudest it will play) inti vol(the volume that it will play at when it is turned on) the yamaha has alot of quirks to it but has a very nice sound. for second zone features and a easier receiver to set up i have onkyo and they are very easy to set up zone 2 olume and everything on the front panel. hope you dont have to try to program a universal remote to work it seems yamaha uses discrete codes that are impossible to find i tried one universal and can only get very basic features to work.
hope this helps you out,
jeff
