SOURCE: Dehumidifier Does Not Collect Water
Hi,
A dehumidifier is just a refrigerating machine with it's shirt hanging out and there is not much in the way of serviceable parts inside.
If the compressor runs - the throbbing sound - and it doesn't collect water then either the intake filter screen is totally clogged with fluff or the compressor has leaked it's gas away, in which case it might run continuously and get hot to no good effect.
If it doesn't run then it may be that the motor capacitor has failed, but that can soon lead to the compressor motor cooking itself; leaving you with an expensive doorstop.
The one thing you might get checked is the "bucket full" switch. There will be a floating part on the bucket which rises up when the bucket fills and eventually makes contact with another part which is connected to a small switch. If that switch has failed you might be lucky and get an inexpensive repair job done.
If these suggestions do help you solve the problem, please give my reply a suitable rating. If they do not, please add a comment with more details so I can try to help you further.
Cheers, D

SOURCE: kenmore dehumidifier runs but won't collect water
Hi,
If you haven't done so already, try removing and cleaning the inlet filter screen which is almost certainly just behing the inlet grille. It may slide upwards out of the casing or downwards unto the bucket area. If this is blocked with fluff then no moist air will get to the cold pipes, so little or no water will be extracted. There's also a chance that the humidity sensor is clogged with fluff, so fooling the system into thinking the room is pretty dry, in which case the compressor will probably not run.
A running compressor can usually be detected as a deep throbbing from the machine. If it is running, but not cooling the pipes behind the intake grille, then you may have lost the refrigerant from the system via a leak. If the air coming out of the machine is warm (caused by the compressor running) but there is no water produced this may be the cause.
Explore along these lines and let me know what you find.
Cheers, D

SOURCE: not working
Hate to tell you, but it may be a goner. Many units have a rectangular air filter that may be clogged, but I would still expect to see some moisture removal. Without exact model I'll have to be general,.... remove cover (front or back, depends on model) to see cooling coils. If the compressor is running, these coils should be wet or may have a light frost on them for a time. Not = refrigerant leak. (not economical to repair) If you see one small area of ice,... it's also a goner. If the compressor does not run you could have a bad compressor, a bad defrost control, or a bad control / humidistat. Other than the filter or possibly a fan motor, these unit are rarely economical to repair.

When you push the power button, the blower fan comes on. In
a few minutes you should hear a second "click"--that is your
compressor starting. Do you hear that second click?

IS THERE A RECALL ON THIS UNIT?
Unit is 4 years old and has been used for 3 summers. Now seems to be low on charge. Coils frosts and will collect no water! All controls seem to work but I think the charge is very low. Very poor life.
POWER IS ON BUT DOES NOT COLLECT WATER. I CLEANED THE FILTER AND EVERYTHING ELSE SEEMS TO BE FINE. NOW I SEE THIS UNIT IS NOT A VERY GOOD ONE. IT IS ONLY BEEN USED TWO SUMMERS NO WINTERS. ONLY USED FOR ABOUT 3 MONTHS A YEAR. I AS WELL HAD ANOTHER UNIT THAT WAS VERY OLD BUT WORKED FINE, MY WIFE WANTED SOMETHING THAT LOOKED NICER AND NOW I HAVE SOMETHING THAT DOES NOT WORK. SO NOW WHAT DO I DO? MR. Z.
