Yes it is possible to transfer all your data and information to your new desktop computer. Just get the hard disk drive out from your old computer and then plug it to your computer.

And with the motherboard dock you mention, a system casing is probably the best to dock your motherboard.

Thank you for reaching us.

Have a nice day!

To remove your hard drive out from your old computer you need the following:

    1. Philips Screw Driver

    2. Anti-static wrist ban (Optional)

    1. Make sure your computer power is unplugged before you start.

    2. Open the computer system case. You will now see the inside of your system case. The motherboard, hard drives, powersupplies, etc.

    3. Now use the philips screw driver to remove the hard disk out of the drive bay.

Now in your new computer, just follow the steps 1 and 2 and then with the help of the screw driver, secure the hard drive into the drive bay.

Use the old drive as a secondary master then plug the IDE ribbon connector to IDE2 header connector or if you are using a sata hard drive, then plug it into any available sata port in the motherboard.

Don't forget to plug the drive power connector.

    That's all..:-)

    Have a nice day!

Transfering data from damaged motherboard

The motherboard does not store any information. The hard drive stores all the information. If the motherboard is damaged, you have to either buy a new motherboard or remove the hard drive and install it into another computer.

I have a Dell GX270 and i replaced the P4 2.4 Processor with a P4 2.8 and now all i get when i turn it on is a sollid amber light on the power switch, Nothing else. Does not boot. Can you tell me what is...

Its possible the motherboard does not support the new processor. its possible there might be a firmware update for the motherboard to add support, otherwise you might be out of luck.

Swap processors back, confirm that it works again, and if possible confirm that the new P4 is in fact working.

Dell deminson 4600 fails to power up, power supply tested ok.

No beebs, no bueno. Unplug the power cord. Unplug the wide multi colored adapter from the motherboard and reseat it. make sure the other conntections are firm while you're down there and have the case open.
If you don't know what I'm talking about or don't want to crack open your PC then buy a new Dell and hae someone slave up your drive and transfer the information.

DELL INSPIRON E1505 NOTEBOOK (Motherboard/ Hard Drive Problems)

You have 2 solutions here, basically.

1 - Buy an external hard drive enclosure for laptop hard drive and connect that via USB to your desktop. After that, Windows should pick it up as an external drive, like a USB stick.

2 - If you can get the computer to turn on, you can connect the laptop and desktop together via network card (ethernet cable) with a CrossOver cable. You'd set the desktop IP settings statically to,, and the laptop to,, Then you'd just browse from one to the other by \\<computername>\c$, log in if it asks, and copy what you need.

Motherboard blew up

I would recommend buying a replacement computer, and install the Dell IDE drive in an external 3.5" IDE hard drive enclosure. This way you can pull your information off the the Dell hard drive, and then blow it away.

Keep in mind that new computers use a SATA drive, your old Dell '8200 has an IDE drive. Also keep in mind that your Dimension 8200 drivers won't work on the new computer.

You might be able to install your Dell drive as a slave if you have an open IDE channel available.

Good news is, your old Dell uses RAMBUS memory, which is worth a lot. It's a good parts computer, and most people who look for computer parts know of the bad capacitor issue on Intel made Dell motherboards from that era.
