Bootmgr is missing

Step 1:
There are a number of possible causes for BOOTMGR errors, including the most common "BOOTMGR is missing" error message.

The most common reasons for BOOTMGR errors include corrupt and misconfigured files, hard drive and operating system upgrade issues, corrupt hard drive sectors an outdated BIOS and damaged or loose IDE cables

Anothe reason you might see BOOTMGR errors is if your PC is trying to boott from a hard drive or flash drive that is not properly configured to be booted from. In other words, it's trying to boot from a non-bootable source. This also would apply to media on an optical drive or floppy drive that you're trying to boot from. make sure there are no disks in cd floppy usb drives Test all power and data leads that attach to your hard drive IDE,SATA the leads from your ((MOTHERBOARD TO YOUR HARD DRIVE)) make sure they have a secure dust free connections and are not faulty or just replace them they could be faulty if its a flat ribbon 40 pin IDE it will be the fist to fail Make sure all power and data leads that are attached to your drives dvd\cd have secure connections and are not faulty or just replace them they could be faulty a computer needs Data and Power to travel through every working device and to continue its cycle and to have an end so any faulty leads will end up with a computer error. also make sure you have set it boot from you hard drive in BIOS Restart your computer and enter BIOS mode. On most computers this is done by pressing the Delete ot F2 key but will vary depending on your computers bios other keys Acer: - Ctrl+Alt+Esc , ALR PC: (F2) or (Ctrl)(Alt)Esc) , Award BIOS: (Del) or (Ctrl)(Alt)(Esc).

Scroll over to the "Hard Drives" tab, and make sure your computer has the hard drive assigned to be on. Often during BIOS you can select auto-detect or change options with your hard drive to make sure Windows can recognize it. Once you've selected your desired options, continue to boot.

When it is detected, go to my computer, right-click, untick that (stupid) option, immediately you see the message uncompressing and its done. Put your hard-disk back in to your machine its ready.. w7 insert your OS CD
go to DOS window and type in your OS driver (usualy C:/

type in bootrec /FixMbr
then type in bootrec /fixboot

then type in bootrec /rebuildbcd
then type in exit

restart your computer
it will work 100% only if you prompt at the same order Hope this helps.

Hi Good day!! There might be a corrupted files in your windows (BOOTMGR) you will need a windows 7 CD

* Insert your Windows 7 disk into your DVD player and restart your computer.
* The next screen you see should have the Language, Time and Currency and Keyboard boxes.
* In the lower left side there are two options: "What to know before installing Windows" and "Repair your computer."
* Click on "Repair your computer"
* Windows will then try to find the installation directory for Vista or Windows 7, depending on what you have.
* Next up is a screen with a box called Recovery Options. Click the first option, Startup Repair.
* You'll see a Startup Repair box with the message "Startup Repair is checking your system for problems..."
* When it's done, it will prompt you to reboot. If there is more than one problem it may reboot again to continue repairing.
* At this point, you can remove the DVD, reboot and everything should be working.

Thank you for using FixYa

Please accept if my solution helps you!!

Compressed boot manager

Windows Vista includes a new Boot Manager (BootMgr) that replaces the old NT Loader (Ntldr).

If the boot partition no longer can be found, then Vista will display the following error: BOOTMGR is missing. Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart

The Windows Boot Configuration Data file is missing required information

More Info MS KB 919529
More Info MS KB 927391

This can usually be solved by checking the boot devices, and if no problems found then use Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE) and perform a "Startup Repair".

If by accident having compressed the entire boot partition, then Vista will display the following error: BOOTMGR is compressed. Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart
This can usually be solved by using Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE) and perform a "Startup Repair". If that fails then use WinRE to enter the "Command Prompt" and execute these commands:
  • compact /U C:\bootmgr
  • compact /U C:\ntldr
