Two things, Laser gone low and can't read dvd. Just try cleaning the collimating lens with a cotton swab and glass cleaner. gently wet one end and dry residue with the other end. The other thing is could be just a mutilated loom (flex) cable connecting the laser from the main pcb board. Laser is most likely gone bad.
Try cleaning the lasers lens with an anti static cleaning wipe. I used " nice'n clean" that I had purchased from Walmart to clean my laptop screen. My dvd player started back playing after gently wiping the laser lens.
