I have a Compaq cq50-110us laptop. It will not boot. There is a blue screen with one of two errors: stop:00000124 or stop: 0000009c (I may be missing some zeros) I purchased a recovery disk from HP/Compaq and it will begin to recover for 30 seconds or so, but then it goes to the blue screen with the error message again. I read online where it can be the registry and tells me that I should run a registry program. I'd have to put it onto a usb drive, since I cannot use the cq50. (I'm on my desktop computer) This laptop belongs to my daughter who never kept it in a carrying case. So I'm guessing it's been treated rather harshly. Is it a hardware problem? Or software/registry?

Did you just install a new program or a piece of hardware, update a driver, install an update, etc.? If so, there's a very good chance that the change you made caused the BSOD:
Startup using Last Known Good Configuration to undo recent registry and driver changes.
Use System Restore to undo recent system changes.
Roll Back device driver to version prior to your driver update.

Scan your computer for viruses. Some viruses can cause a Blue Screen of Death, especially ones that infect the master boot record (MBR) or boot sector.

Update drivers for your hardware. Most Blue Screens of Death are hardware or driver related so updated drivers could fix the cause of the STOP error.

Return hardware settings to default in Device Manager. Unless you have a specific reason to do so,the system resources that an individual piece of hardware is configured to use in Device Manager should be set to default. Return BIOS settings to their default levels. An overclocked or misconfigured BIOS can cause all sorts of random issues, including BSODs.

If this doesn't helps you then simply get the system utility program like PC Fresher that will fix windows errors that cause of blue screen

Can't reboot starts out li9ke noremal trhen a very quick blue screen and i have to restart the boot process all over againj


I came across this kind of situaiton on my HP laptop (win 7) and ended up with eliminating it with a boot program called BuitSuite and it helped entered my Windows and resolved the program. It seems that there is a system file missing which lead to error loading error when you boot. Hope it will also help in your case, best regards.

Can't install xp in compaq laptop


you mean you need to downgrade your computer from Windows Vista to XP?
if so is the case, you need to go to the BIOS in the Boot menu, select IDE from ACPI.
put the boot option to boot from CD first or disable Boot from hard disk.
then you will be able to downgrade your computer from Vista to XP.

Compaq will not boot even in safe mode


change AHGI TO IDE ,
see boot configuratiob Hard Drive and any where you see AHCI or Sata

change it to IDE or alteration to other one

No complete starting


Unmountable boot volume means your harddrive has gone out.You will have to get a new one and load your os again.Sorry:-(

If you can install Windows Vista and only XP not work for sure this is the solution :
SATA operation mode is AHCI
To change this :
Open BIOS
Look for SATA Operation Mode or somethin equivalent and change-it to IDE or Compatibility Mode.

Laptop won' boot up.


The blue screen means the system is experiencing a fatal error... a error from which it cant recover.... so while booting press f8 and boot using safe mode... then analyse the startup programs of your system using Start->Run and then typing msconfig in the window that appears and then going to the startup tab... one of your latest installed program might be misfunctioning....

Try uninstalling it and down stepping one rank lower to the moblity radeon 8500 it sounds like you have files that are missing

Cant boot


try system restore to a point before you started getting blue screen.you may have got an update that conflicks with your networking.My sister had this problem with her desktop so I reformatted and reloaded the OS and it happened again when it got to a "D_LINK" update so I hid the update.She hasnt had any problems since then,that was about 8 months ago.
