I think you are working on draft or economy mode.
do the following:

- click start, select control panel
- select printers and faxes
- right click the printer model you are working on then select properties
- select printing preferences
- depending on the printer model, you can disable draft or economy mode by selecting standard mode or similar to this.

Good luck!

SOURCE: faint printing after cartridge change & head cleaning

How about nozzle check output? Is it perfect? No missing lines? Do head cleaning, wait for 30 minutes. Check nozzle again. If there are no difference betwen two output, you may need cleaning head manually.

Clean print heads remove ink cartridge and take a paper towel wet it and clean the cartridge off of there is dry ink on it. Your ink cartridge could be almost empty. Ink cartridges dry out fast. If you do not use ur printer often the ink drys out.

My HP 3550 deskjet will simply not print. It goes through the motions and seems to be printing --but the page is blank or very faint. I have already cleaned and re-calibrated the printer

Check ink-levels -- no ink means no printing.
Run a few more "print-head-cleaning" cycles -- clogged ink-jets cannot spray ink onto the paper.

Just replaced the ink cartidges and only faint horizontal lines appear when printing.

Run a few "print-head-cleaning" cycles, to unclog some ink-jets that are not shooting ink onto the paper.

Open the rear of the printer and make sure theres no paper jam or broken parts.

Try printing a document with the rear of the printer open and watch to see if anything out of the ordinary happens.

My ink levels are fine but print is very faint and lines are missing, it is illegible

Your print head is clogged or damaged. Press the print head into a paper towel. You should get a nice block of black or three stripes of color. If not, try placing print head on paper towels soaked with warm water to get the ink flowing (ink may soak through paper towels, so beware of where you do this). Then try pressing the print head onto dry paper towels as before. If you can't get the ink flowing, you need a new cartridge because the print head is clogged with dried up ink.

Printing is very faint. How to change or add ink printer device.

This is most likely a ribbon impact system. Any office supply store should have the ribbon you need, with information on compaitability on the package.

Remove the paper roll and gently but firmly pry on the bezel surrounding the paper exit path. Examine the sides of the ribbon casing for any clips or fasteners.

Black ink is faint

First I would suggest performing any head alignment functions with your printer's menu to be sure you have the stepper motor feed adjusted properly. Use the paper you are currently printing on for this procedure so that the thickness of that paper is factored in.
If you stil see the banding after doing this, you can use the Advanced Media Control button under Printer Settings in ColorBurst to fine-tune the paper feed adjustment. Print out the "Media Advance.tif" target (located in the ColorBurst/images & Targets folder) to use as a guide. For white bands, you'll need to enter a negative number (to shorten the paper feed).
