Question about GE HVM1750SMSS Microwave Oven

Ge microwave OTR model HVM1750SM1SS turns itself on

I have a ge microwave OTR model HVM1750SM1SS it was purchased 4/2009 and just started turning itself on. When it turns on you cant turn it off except to unplug it. I called GE and they told me it is out of warranty. I did some research and found this is a common problem in some of their models? Does anyone know if GE has a class action suit pending on this model? Also what could cause this?

There is a Web site dedicated to this issue. I am aware of a suit involving other older models.

You have a shorting membrane keypad.

If and when an oven is coming on or doing anything by itself, this is very dangerous and can result in a fire.

So until it is repaired, please leave it unplugged or leave the door open when it's not in use, and of course one should never leave a microwave unattended while cooking.

That rule is even more important in this case.

On this model, the membrane keypad is not available as a separate part, so you would have to order the control panel frame assembly which comes with a new keypad.

It's actually a pretty easy do it yourself job.

At our Web site, we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

Next, disconnect the strip as shown in the photo below, then remove the screws that hold your circuit board in the old frame.

Then carefully (since the display is made of glass) move your circuit board to the new frame, and reassembly is the reverse of disassembly.

The part number to order is WB07X11056 and you can get it here for $130.51 plus shipping. (That compares to $189.75 direct form GE)

You can also find helpful exploded view diagrams at that link.

It sounds like you may be talking about the stirrer cover.

For some models, the owner's manual covers how to remove it. You can download GE owner's manuals and installation instructions here.

Otherwise, you can find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number here.

We have a relatively new (about 6 weeks old) GE OTR microwave--model is JVM1540SP1SS. Yesterday it started "running' even when there isn't any food in there and before we push any buttons. When the...

It sounds like a sticky door switch. There are several switches operated by the door latches to keep the oven from operating with the door open. It's possible someone got a little too rough when closing the door, which can cause misadjustment.

Since the oven is so new it will still be under warranty, though. Why not let GE fix it? You just need to tell them it's not working properly. First call the retailer where you purchased the oven. If they arranged installation they probably also handle service. Otherwise you can contact GE's customer service as instructed in your owner's manual to find out how to handle the repair.

this is usually a bad turn table motor. if you remove the screws out of the bottom of the otr(over the range) it will hinge down and back and you will see the motor in the middle of the otr. your local parts house should have this item in stock or be able to order it for you

Turn Table wont turn

if you can check the turn table motor for resistance. 90 percent would be a broken motor which you could replace. just look for the motor at the bottom of the microwave and race the wire back to the pc board.

GE JES1456WFC001 microwave oven turns on by itself

You are correct. The keypad is failing.

If you might want to replace it yourself, I have uploaded a handy guide with pictures showing you what's typically involved.

If you would like to have us do this for you, we do that for $39.95 plus part costs, assuming we can get the part for this Canadian model.

We're happy to help and we appreciate your thoughtful rating of our answer.
