Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. The issue is with the convergence ICs going bad and needs to be replaced. It’s not a difficult job if you want to do this yourself, you should require some basic knowledge about soldering-resoldering components. To start with you’ll have to open the back of the unit and then blow the dust off. After this is done check the ICs which are located behind the black heat sink and also check the resistors as if they are short the ICs might blow again after sometime.

There are repair kits available which includes repair instructions with the parts, if you want to do it yourself you can buy and repair it yourself. Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or else revert for further assistance.

Thanks

The kit comes with original Sanyo STK IC’S , not those cheap aftermarket or china made IC’S full pictorial directions, the thermal paste, resistors, the correct Pico fuses, AND free live on-Line tech assistance in case you run into a problem with the repair. They ship out 2 to 3 day Priority mail, the next day in most cases GOOD LUCK!!!

Ghost and red

Sounds like the TV needs major convergence alignment and possibly a a full color scale adjustment. Projection TV's have the most alignment issues. Since I don't know manufacturer I can only give you general ideas. Most projection TV's have either auto or manual alignments which can be accesed through the menu. However the adjustments may be tricky to get to. Once convergence is done if video is still red you will need to get in the TV and set up biasing levels on each tube. Hopefully the tubes are just slightly degraded and can be readjusted for a nice quality image.
I suggest finding a local guy and asking him to possibly do a quick a;ignment for a fixed price.
Good luck

Ghosting

Your TV most likely has one or more possible problems.

Problem #1: Convergence Chip Failure ( common problem )

Here are some of the most common symptoms and example photos of a convergence problem
  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the tv settings then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move them up, down, left, and right.

If you can't move them in all directions your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

You need to replace the convergence chips and convergence resistors. Check the site www.TvRepairKits.com. They have put together a kits for most models. If you don't see a kit for your set send them a quick note and they will put one together for you. Their kits include a photo instruction guide, original OEM Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, pico fuses, etc.

Problem #2 CRT Fluid is Cloudy

Projection TV tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos around images.

Picture of a set that needs the fluid changed.

What you will need to do is replace the coolant and clean the crt. You can get a repair kit from www.TvRepairKits.com that includes replacement coolant, photos. instructions, etc.

Covergence out of alignment on 1/4 Vertical left side of screen

You need to manually adjust the alignment:
On remote, press Menu to get to the main menu
Then arrow down to "ADVANCED FEATURES"
Then press "enter"
Then Arrow down to "CONVERGENCE" and press "enter"
"Red Convergence" should be highlighted
Press "enter"
You now have Green, Red, and Blue overlapping crosses.
If Red is out of whack, use arrows to align
To toggle to blue (and back to red), press "VIDEO"
Then align blue cross
Once the crosses look aligned, and nice and white, press "AUDIO"
This will bring up the Advanced Convergence screen
This is a grid of the same overlapping colors
You have control over the Red and Blue
If Green is very out of whack, you'll need a repairman…
While the "target" is flashing, you can move it around the screen with the arrows
Place it over an intersection to adjust, then press "enter"
Now the "target" is steady (not flashing), and you can use the arrows move your color
When it's aligned, press "enter" again
Now "target is flashing, and you can go to the next square.
You cannot adjust every intersection.
Some areas need to be adjusted via the adjacent intersection
When you're happy with color you're working on,
Press "video" while target is flashing to change to the other color
Repeat the above (blue is much harder to see and adjust for me…)
When you're happy with the entire grid, start hitting "Menu"
Each press brings you back out one menu level, until you are out of them
Once you're used to the process, it should take no more than a minute or two.

Noise and overlapping 'ghost image' on photos

It sounds like something causing the print head to **** e.g. lack of lubrication on the track, missing teeth form the drive belt etc. Use MS Word (or something) to draw a black, magenta, cyan and yellow square, then drag the four squares so they completely overlap. Then lift up the printer top cover and print it. Watch the print head and see if you can identify the cause of the misalignment. Let me know what happens, or if you don't quite understand what I'm asking, come back at me.

I used" Silerado 1st" solution. I have an Akai pt5598hdix/sms.
I had ghosting.Like 3 colors side by side.
Silerado said with TV off press "mute,1,8,2" then TV on.
I didn't see anything like a menu.He warned to write down any setting you saw before you change anything. But for me nothing came up. So as he said the next step try with TV "on" press "Mute,1,8,3" this is another set of adjustments for finer detail. I lined/overlapped all the lines up or down or side to side useing the channel and the volume buttons and then held the enter button down until the TV flashed 3 times. Then I shut it off and when I turned it back on It was perfect.
