you don't...remove the old rope buy pulling it out and cutting it off...then fish out the knot from the end in the wheel...once all rope is removed, get a new length of rope (note: use the "same size" as the original). Now, find a friend to help...Next, locate the hole that the knot was in and mark it. Look inside the wheel and see where the rope "goes in" and secures. Now, start turning the wheel (in the direction that the rope would pull it) and this will wind the spring. Keep turning til it stops. Then, slowly let it turn bak til the hole in the wheel matches to the hole in the cover where the rope comes thru. have a friend feed the rope thru the cover, into the hole, and out the top where ou tie a knot to hold it in. DO NOT LET GO !! Once you have the knot in place, tie the handle to the other end. Then slowly let the wheel "pull" the rope in until the handle stops it... That's it ....

You don't, you must remove the entire housing to replace rewind parts.

SOURCE: I need to replace the pull starter cord on my self

There will be bolts that hold the housing that have the rivet in. Remove the bolts and remove that housing. Make sure you have the right amount of cord and the proper size rope. You WILL NOT have to remove the rivets. Remove any rope that is still in the recoil pulley. Now you will have to have a small screwdriver or some thing that will be used to hold the pulley from unwinding. Now you have to turn the pulley counter clock wise. You want good tension. Put the screwdriver through the fins in the pulley so it won't unwind. Make sure you line up the hole in the pulley with the hole in the shroud. Put rope through and tie a knot. Tie the handle on and then remove the screwdriver and slowly let the rope back in. Try pulling a few times to make sure you have enough tension. When enough reassemble the shrouds and give it a pull.

Good luck

SOURCE: how do you put a pull cord on a bolens 21 inch.

You don't remove the rivets; you need to remove the whole top cover, via the bolts on the side. Most pull cord replacements are about the same and there are a million videos on youtube that will show you how it's done. I'll link you to one of my favs and you can search from there and watch more. Once you've done one, you'll have the hang of it; it's not very hard to do but the first one's a bit scary. There's two schools on the way to do it and I'll give you two links. Best of luck to you. James

How do I access the pull cord on an Ariens 911072 to replace it?

If housing has screws you take the screws out and take the housing off but if the housing has rivets you take a small drill bit and a cordless or electric drill and drill the rivets out being careful not to make the rivet holes any bigger. Take the housing off and replace the cord then get some same size rivets and a rivet gun and replace the housing riveting it back on. Make sure the housing goes back on the same way it came out.

Replacing the pull cord on a scott bonnar sx4000

Home Depot and other home improvement stores sell universal replacement pull cords for less that 4 dollars. Instructions are on the bag. Look at the screen covering the pull cord to see if it is bolted on or pop riveted. If it's pop riveted you'll have to drill out the rivets to get at the cord. Have a pop rivet tool and the proper sized rivets ready to re install the cover

Pull cord want retract so i can start mower got plastic cover off but the cord is in medal housing which is held down with three rivets how do i get it off to fix cord.

You have to remove the motor cover that the starter housing is riveted to. Usually three or four bolts around the perimiter of the housing and it will slide off with the starter housing.

I have a toro personal pace gts self propelled. only model number i foind was 2h802. pull cord broke, would like to know how to replace it

You can buy the whole part...cord,handle,recoil spring all in one piece and remove the old install the new...or you can just buy a legth of pull cord and swap everything over.
First take off the top 4 phillip screws and remove the plastic cover....don't forget to pull off the oil fill cap, next drill out the center of the three pop rivets that hold the recoil spring in place, use a drill bit a little smaller than the rivet, next tap the rivet out using a punch and a hammer, next install the pull chord by first rewindind the coil spring then locking it oin place so it wont twist back and install the new line(pull cord)...next install it on the top of the motor and install 3 new 1/4" aluminumn pop rivets 3/8" long with a pop rivet gun all can be purchased atb Ace Hardware...reinstall the reverse of dismantle proceedure and happy mowing...don't forget to attach the black plastic/rubber pull cord handle.
Happy Mowing!!
