HP printer HP PSC 1500 SN: MY596D11PB Model #: Q5888A Copy mechanism works find. Printing from computer sometimes does not print; lights flash on and off rapidly. Pressing the cancel/resume button does not help. By pressing the power button it will reset and sometimes will print ok the next time.

Thanks for using FixYa. Turn printer off and unplug the printer from all cables (power, USB, etc). Try to hold it upside down and gently shake it so that if there is any paper inside it’s removed. If still it’s not resolved then clean the print head. To clean the print head take a hot water towel with the printer unplugged and the cartridges out, clean it till the time you see there is no ink residue on the towel.     Print head is where the cartridges sit, once you have taken the cartridges out you can start cleaning the area.

    The copper areas look clean. I cleaned some black goop out from the area where the ink cartridges sit. How do I access the printer heads to clean them? Do the printer heads come out?

    I have done everything you suggested. The printer worked ok for a few days. Today, the same problem as reappeared. What is your next suggestion?

    As cleaning the print head worked so it seems that the print head is going bad and should be replaced.

    We removed the ink cartridges and cleaned the area like you recommended last Monday. It worked for a few days. Now you recommend purchasing a new print head. Questions: How do you remove the print head? What is the model number of the print head? The user guide for this printer does not show where the print head is located or how it can me removed. I could not find a print head listed under HP on-line for this printer.

    The cost to replace print head is usually around $75 in which you can buy a new one. Before doing that you can try to download the printer drivers from this link.

    How would it help to install the print drivers, because sometimes it prints fine and sometimes not. I thought that once you installed the print drivers you did not need to install them again. Where do I go to purchase a print head? HP said that no parts are available for this printer. Is that true? Is this printer worth spending $75.00 for a print head? Where do I purchase a print head?

    Over time
    the printer drivers may get corrupted and you’ll need to uninstall and
    reinstall these to resolve the issue. You can download and install the drivers
    from the ling provided earlier. If still the issue is not resolved only then I’ll
    suggest changing the print head. Print head are just behind where the
    cartridges sit and are available with HP as given on the link and it costs
    around $40 each and you can buy them online. It is worth replacing one or all
    print heads if required.

    I went to the HP site. There are no instructions on how to uninstall current drivers. There are only instructions on how to install drivers. How do you uninstall?

    I downloaded the printer driver software as you recommended from the HP link you forwarded. The download was completed. However, the installation window never did open with further instructions for completing this process, as it said would happen in the HP installation instructions.

    It wont open automatically you'll need to run the installation process from the file that you have downloaded...as I said earlier and this is not necessary that this will work. It is the print head that is going bad which is not allowing the printer to print intermittently, so its better to get it replaced. If you are unable to get it online you can get it through any of the repair shops. Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or post a comment for further assistance.

    We don't understand how to get to the folder you have referenced to.

I understand however, from what you have described till now dont think that it should really resolve the issue as the only way is to replace the print head or buy a new printer for as low as $50. Most of the time the light bar is not the problem when it comes to print quality issues. Those are typically ink cartridge or printhead issues. Try printing a self test page and compare.

Can't print from computer


Reinstall the printer drivers. (completely remove the old ones first)
Try new drivers from HPs website if need be.

Check the print queue in control panel>printers to make sure nothing is lying in the print queue and blocking your printing.

Make sure that you are printing to the correct printer in the "print" dialogue box that pops up when you go file>print. Sometimes this can revert to "microsoft document printing" or somesuchand just save a file on your hard drive instead of printing (in techie speak, printing does not necessarily mean print out on a bit of paper). Or may the "Print" dialogue box wrongly is pointed at another/old printer that still has drivers installed on your pc when it pops up, check before clicking the "ok" button..

If not, try a new cable, if not, call HP.

I can scan, BUT I can't print. HP PSC 1500 windows 7


Go to control panel and check the printer status, Unplug the USB cable than right click on printer icon and click on delete. Once you do that make sure printer icon should be gone. Than restart the computer. Once computer is Up than connect the USB cable of printer and make sure while doing that , the printer should be powered on. After that printer icon will again reappear in contro panel.

Try printing, it should work
