Question about Carrier 38CKC036 Air Conditioner
Is it the compressor or is it the housing? Very likely the housing has vibrated loose and is making the racket. Find this out by pressing several places on the housing cabinet. If this does't change anything ... the motor mounts may have failed and require replacement. It may be a combo of the problems.
If it is the housing, you will have to tighten it up any way you can from tightening the screws nuts and bolts to wedging something between the offending parts. I suspect you will find the fan grill is the major cause of the sound you are hearing.
If it is the compressor ... you should get a AC professional to look at your compressor as soon as you can. Post your question in the "Local Repair" section of FixYa.com for fast results.
