Here's how to check which part of your computer is responsible for shutting it down after using it for 20 minutes
1. Check your power supply...open the cover and check for any blown capacitor and replace it with same value... if you have soldering iron and lead, better resolder all terminals connected on the pcb..check also the fan on the power supply if its working smoothly or overheating. observe it when the computer is on.. if the speed becomes unstable then the fan is causing a low current supply output.
2. Inspect the fan connected to your processor... while your computer is on check if the fan on your processor is working...the processor generates extreme heat so it needs fan to cool it down..your whole motherboard will shut down if this overheats..replace it if its not working.
3. Check the temperature inside your computer.. Overheating is the primary reason for computer hanging up, program logging off the window and shutting down your system.. check the fan, blower and any other additional cooling units, whose motor may be stuck up and starting to burn..

I hope with this 3 basic steps you will find the source of the problem...

thanks.. much appreciated if you rate my solution..

I have a compaq s5000nx that keeps shutting down and restaring after 20 min have not done any thing to it

Hello,

Open the case and blow any dust out of the heatsink (under the cpu fan). Overheating is the main cause of sudden shutdowns. You may also want to apply fresh thermal paste between the cpu and heatsink. Please let me know if this helps or not.

My HP a749c randomly shuts down

sounds like you have a hardware problem. I thinking it is the motherboard, but you can try by taking out other parts (cd drive, hard drive, ram, etc) and if the part does not change anything then it is not the problem part and can be placed back in.

DEAR SIR, I AM USING INTEL 945GNT DESKTOP

shutdown is due to overheating there is a sensor inside every processor to protect it from overheating nd if the temperature goes above this temperature it automatically shutdown.
if you are using a desktop then change your cabinet buy a airy one with extra fan installed in it. or you can open one side of your cabinet to sink the heat quick;y.

It sounds like a processor temp. problem. Is the processor clean? Is it spinning properly, you may have to replace. How old?

AcerPower F1 desktop boots fine after about 10

More likely it's from overheating; if it would be from the power supply ithe shutdown would be more random.
But it could also be a malware infection - especially if it happens EXACTLY after the same amount of time . Check what processes are active just before shutdown .

Computer shutting down

do you get a blue screen when it shuts off? or... does the monitor just turn off, or does the computer tower and everything turn off?

If everything turns off,(like a normal shutdown) try checking your power options in the control panel, to make sure there aren't some power saving settings that are causing it.

If its a blue screen type issue, then there may be a hardware problem that is causing the computer to shutdown to avoid further damage to the system.
