    HI,

The first thing you can try to fix the problem is to do a hard reset by unpluging all the cords from the back and then plug it back after 30min.

Secondly check if there is any paper jammed in the machine. Is there is any paper jammed inside then please remove it.

Usually error 5100 appears when there is any problem with the print head.Did you try refilling the ink manually in the cartridge if so this can also be one strong reason for the error to appear.
The only solution would be to call canon and get it serviced if it is under warranty.

    I hope this helps..

Goodluck and Thank you for using fixya.

What is the model of your printer?

In most Canon printers, this error refers to a "Carriage Home Position Error," which just means that the ink carriage can't move freely to its normal starting position.

Check the ink cartridges again to make sure they are seated properly, and are not hindering movement of the carriage (sometimes they'll hit the side if they are not inserted completely).

Canon PIXMA iP1000 - Service Error 5100

It means that the waste ink absorbers are filled and you will need to replace them and take the machine to a service center.. Well thats what Canon says,, then when you get there they say buy a new one..

Any way forget them try this..
1.) unplug machine (power cable from back of printer.
2.) hold the power button down and plug cable back in.the printer light will stay on ,,
3.) still holding power,, press the paper feed button.. light will change to orange
4.) press paper feed button again.. It will turn to green
5.) release power button and enjoy..

Depend on the the firmware skip step 4...

That will bypass canons firmware and reset the counters.. Print as you will now..

Cannon pixma mp510 ~ error code 5100 help

Error 5100 is Carriage error.Possible problems in:
- Carriage unit
- Timing **** strip film
- Logic board assembly
- Carriage motor
First, make sure there is no paper jam anywhere in the machine.. look inside, rear, where the paper tray (output) is, etc to see if you find any shreds or torn paper that may have gotten stuck and you didn't see.Look carefully in the zone of Purge unit, using flashlight in the right side on printer. If this not help your printer need service.

CANON IP 1300 SERVICE ERROR 5100

ERROR 5100 means that there is some foreign object blocking your ink cartridge carriage that disables it from moving. It may be a piece of paper or a scotch tape or a staple wire. You may try cleaning also the encoder strip with a moist tissue paper. Furthermore, you may also try cleaning CAREFULLY the contact points of the cartridge holder and the cartridge itself (those shiny bronze pins) with a moist lint-free cloth.

MP830 5100 Error

Normal 0 I suggest you get a sheet of Card Stock (Heavy paper) and place it in the feed way. Then press the print button applying a slight amount of pressure on the Card Stock so it will feed through the printer. The reason for this, is in some cases I have been able to clear the paper track of debris that was deposited there over time.
Worth a try, as I have fixed a number of printers this way, saving costly repairs.
Hope this helps. Bud

Paper feed pulling to the right during paper feed

Dear all,
Error code 5100 indicates CR (carriage return) error occurs. There are 2 possibilities of this case: Film timing **** strip is dirty or carriage part is faulty. Look inside your printer. There is a film, installed in horizontal position. Try to clean this film first;wipe carefully with moistened clothe. If the problem still persist, it seems that carriage is faulty.
