You don't need to open it up!

Turn the computer off.
Remove the battery.
Buy a can of compressed air, and give your computer a "blow-job" through every vent that you can find.

Follow the instructions on the can -- keep the can "vertical" while using it.

Hp 6830s is to nois. Fan is tooloude

If the fan making a smooth spin, but the noise is too loud, then it means the fan is trying to dissipate the heat. Probably the air inlet and or the air outlet (also the fan itself) is dirty (or clogged) and you need to clean it up using a canned air.
You may need to open the case/body if the dust become a dust ball (and you need a tweezer and qtip to pickup the dust ball and clean up the fan blades).

My hp pavillion dv7-3079wm shuts off after startup

If you saw that kind of damage, the temperature rose to critical levels in the processor ic causing thermal runner way. Remove the old thermal grease with rubbing alcohol and a paper towel, clean the processor until spotless and the heatsink that mates with it, use high grade thermal grease for computers and a apply a thin coat to both pieces and assemble, make sure any dust or dirt is removed and not blocking vents, compressed air is great for this. If you are very lucky the chip has remained intact, processors are very robust.

Won't Start

This happened to my to my HP Media center Edition PC. I'd have to unplug the power from the outlet, let it stop flashing and the power up again. It would run for a short time and then shut off with the annoying amber / blue flashing light.

I found it was a heat problem on mine - specifically, the CPU cooler. After shutting down and opening the PC, check to see 1) if the CPU fan is running smoothly and 2) if there is a lot of dust and dirt on the CPU cooling fan and heat sink (and rest of the case for that matter).

Gently clean / vacuum the insides of the case AND power supply as best you can. Carefully vac the fan blades and heat sink to clear the dirt and dust that prevents the heat from being blown away by the fans.

When complete, you might even want to take the PC outside and reverse the vacuum so that air can be blown into tight places in the case. A can og compressed air can do the job instead, too.

Reassemble and start up as normal. Good luck!

HP Pavillion won't turn on.

Hmm, did the CA damage any part of it? Sounds silly I know.
And is the power in the, Optical Disk Drive, HDD, Graphics Card and of course on the Motherboard?
Keep it on for about 40 minutes monitoring the heat ever so often even though there is nothing on the Monitor.
By the 40 Minutes it should be mid temp - Hot.
Best of Luck. Tom.

Unexpected shutdown

Could very well be a heat problem. You may have an accumulation of dust and dirt inside your laptop case. Laptops don't have much room for air circulation and even a small amount of dust and dirt buildup can cause random shutdowns to keep the motherboard from overheating. Using some compressed air in a can, blow out all of the dust and see if that helps. You may need to take it to a computer repair shop to have them open up the case and give it a good cleaning. They will be able to wipe all the fan blades clean and help with other dust areas. I don't recommend you trying to open the laptop case by yourself because it can be extremely tricky and something might get broken. Hope this helps.

System shuts down

The heatsink is obviously clogged with dust, adding the extra cooling like you have has helped but the build up of dust has obviously now become critical. You can try blowing compressed air into the proccessor/heatsink vents in the back of the case but the best answer is going to to open the case and physically brush/blow the heatsink clean.
If you feel confident enough to open the case, this site can help you with some pointers:
