Yes, it's possible. Do you have a lens collimator and other equipment needed to make sure the lens elements are aligned properly when you put it back together? If not, I strongly suggest you leave the job to a properly-trained professional technician.

100-400mm canon lens can't adjust focus ring on outside it is locked and will not budge

Assuming you are switched to MF manual focus and not AF then It's a recognised problem with that particular lens, in that some bearings under the focus ring become dislodged. It is not fixable by DIY means and will have to be returned to Canon or a repairer.

Lens will not extend when turned on message on screen lens error

Hi,

This error indicate that focusing ring got stuck or jammed due sand, dust or may be due to external shock caused by dropping the device.
  • Try compressed air. With a fine tip blow off gun around lens barrel. It should remove all dust and sand. Turn the camera on this will solve the problem.
  • You can gently bump the camera to try to free the focusing ring.
  • You can try to turn camera ON at the table (facing it to the ceiling), don't put camera down face to the floor when opening.

If motor is running but lens won't retract sometimes lens would slip off with the gear or break off a tooth in the gear when it gets dropped. Try to gently move the lens barrel around with the finger and see if it is moving, but if tooth or gear is broken lens will move once or twice then it will stuck again.

Else your camera need to be disassembled to get at the focusing ring at Service Center.

Thanks and have a nice day

Carl zeiss Pancolar lens for Exacta. Focusing ring will not turn - i think the camera has been dropped - can I repair this?

it is not likely that you can repair a camera lens. if the lens was less than 400 dollar or Euro then it is problaby cheaper to buy a new one. any repair shold be carried out by a lab, any dust or fingerprints inside the lens surfaces will render it useless also a lot of lense are glued together so that they do not shake apart as this will effect focus so it may not be possible to get into this anyway.

Unfortunately dropping this model, and the f40, 45, 47 fd models, is suicidal for the camera. The lens has an inner slide ring which other models do not have and this ring has three lugs to keep the lens from spinning when powered up and used. Unfortunately these lugs are also clips which hold the focus lens inplace. These are tiny. hard to repair

This will need technical service eventually. Try temporary solution with Sellotape or similar
