Question about Bose (321GS) System

My system won't open the cd/DVD tray. Just makes a mechanical whirring noise.

Hello, David.

With your system powered off, look for a tiny hole in the front of the CD/DVD tray, With an opened paper clip, push one end in the hole to see if the tray opens.

Even if it does open, there still could be a mechanical problem and the CD/CD drive would need to be replaced. But, you may get some extended use.

If it doesn't open, the CD/DVD drive would need to be replaced.

    there is no tiny hole :( dont know how old the 321 is, but I got it when they first came out.... Im sure its not the latest model....

    any more clues? thanks

    Hi, David.

    See if this works (from Bose Support):

    • Turn off the unit.

    • Unplug the Acoustimass module power cord from the outlet for one minute, then reconnect
    it. This allows the unit to reset itself.

    • Before powering on, press and hold Eject on the media center.

    Found info on FixYa Support, should you need to replace the drive. Purchasing the drive from Bose is too expensive. But, a Toshiba SD-M1712 drive would work. There are 2 plastic trim bits and the metal DVD drive
    unit cover that need to be swapped between the old drive and the new PC type
    drive to complete the repair.

    To remove the old drive, all that
    is really necessary is to remove the lid from the BOSE unit and pop off a black
    steel holdown assembly across the top of the failed drive. Once that is done, the
    old just drive lifts out and the replacement is virtually the same as swapping
    out a drive in your PC.

Pioneer dv-2010 dvd player makes a whirring noise


That's because the lazer on the tray is trying to read the disc. Does this happen to other discs? When the lazer can't read the file, the drive spins up the disc to help it read it.

I have a Phillips model 601/25 CD player and the CD drawer won't open - it makes a whirring noise but refuses to open.\r\n J A Adamson <jadamson35@gmail.com>


The rubber band has stretched with age. Easy fix, take cover off (several screws around the case) and band is easily accessed. Even a cheap elastic band will work as a replacement for now, it only opens the drawer mechanism, no effect on sound quality.

My disc tray won't open the lights turn on and work but the disc tray just won't open. How can I fix this?

You have to check two things.
1. You have to check the tray loading belt in the mechanism. To see the same you should remove the mechanism.because the loading belt is beneath the cd tray. As it is cyberhome it will be very difficult to remove the mechanism for an user. if your capable for doing the same then make try. Because you have to remove the top cover then the back panel, then the mechanism. Take care the mother board is attached to the mechanism.

2. You have to check the cyberhome dvd player will show this type of complaint if the Spindle motor is faulty (oppen or short ). Spindle motor is one on which the cd rotates. It will not cost a lot.

The tray on my DVD player won't open. When I press open/close, it just makes a whirring sound.


Failure of the loading mechanism, possible that the drive is struck or the belt is worn out ,. You will need to remove the tray mechanism to check and confirm. The motor seems to work as there is noise but the drive is not working , possible belt slipping or gear slipping.

I think that ;
somehow someone bumped the unit and dislodged a DVD from the tray..
thus impeding the opening mechanism as well as the turntable (the unmeshing gears).
I would unplug the unit and remove the screws holding the top cover on , and take a look at the tray .
once thats done , let us know how this is going.

Dvd drive is not working


Replace the DVD drive. They are inexpensive and it's not worth your time to try and fix this drive...

The dvd will not eject just makes a whirring


There is always a small hole in the front of the tray. Insert a pin through it and press gently when it encounters resistance. The tray will open.
