Maybe it's because it's not getting a signal from the CPU.
Make sure that CPU is working on another monitor.

I've connected my airport extreme by ethernet to my modemrouter Thomson TG585 V7 in bridge mode, as soon as i connect a speedtest on either machine drops by half, disconnect the airport and the tomson...

Simply put, a bridge evenly splits bandwidth, a monitor will, to measure, run upload/download tests by transmitting data which is EXACTLY THE SAME as downloading or uploading data to any other server. Brain engage.

Reconnecting to internet after recovering from sleep mode

There are many causes of this, but the most common can be solved by going to the CMOS (BIOS) of your computer and disable the power saving on the ethernet, PCI or wathever where you modem is connected.

Turning Speedstream 4100 Modem (ON and OFF)

First thing is all electronics items are made up of ICs, registors and capacitors. What will happen if you strecth and release a rubber band 100 times in 5 minutes?. it may break or will break very soon. on the other hand what will happen if you strecth another rubber band and leave it strecthd for 5 minutes?. no change will be there in the rubbers tensility. So is the case with every electronic items. when they heat they expand and when they cool they shrink to original. so if you swith on and off your modem the components will expand a little with heat and when u switch off modem the components will come to original position. if this process is repeated daily twice or thrice then i dont think that your modem may be working fine till next year. so let it on for the whole day and switch it off only when u sleep at night if required., thanks.
