Question about Teledyne Laars Laars Lite 2 Pool Heater 325,000 Btu / Natural Gas

Can propane heater be made to use natural gas?

I have a Hot shot (LAARS) model LHS Heater.

Is it possible to do something to valve to make it be able to use natural gas? I had a gas heater that died. And someone gave us this heater. I didnt realize it at the time it was for propane. I've seen conversion kits out there but not one for this exact model. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.
Mike

Yes, there are kits out for that but you will want to get a professional to do the conversion....he will have the proper tools and equipment to set it up so that it works safely for you...

How do you determine if a pool heater runs on Natural gas or propane

It should say on the tag inside the cabinet, or on the gas valve. Another indicator is that natural gas typically is fed through a 3/4" galvanized pipe, LP is often run through a 1/2" copper pipe. Be sure before trying to fire it up.

My Laars 2 lite pool heater will not ignite, I have the same problem every year for the first ignition. The pilot is lit. I removed the filter to make sure it is not the pressure.

you might need to bleed the line to get fuel to the heater core. If there is a bubble in the line it will prevent the heater from working. Usually, there is a bleeder valve on the heater unit -- unscrew this and let some of the fuel drain out (into a container) and give it another shot. It should light right up after bleeding the line. If the fuel that you took out of the bleeder valve looks clean, you can then put it back in the fuel tank and it should be fine.
If this is a natural gas heater, there will be no bleeder valve -- you should have it looked at by a professional repair person. Natural gas is very dangerous and should only be repaired by a qualified professional to avoid serious injury or death.
