I have the same problem, I have changed the batteries and even switched the battery case from another WW6 and still flashing! I have taken everything out and cleaned out all the dust and still nothing.

IBM Wheelwriter 6---when I turn it on, it appears to lock

There are a few possibilities. First lube the silver shaft that the carrier slides on (WD40 works well). Remove the printwheel and check for paper or ither debris in that area. After that you e
will probably need a tech.

IBM Wheelwriter 5 nonresponsive, line spacing lights flashing

A lot of possibilities Which lights, beeps, how many? Check for debris in and around the printwheel, look for any obstructions under the carrier, put a few drops of oil on the silver shaft the carrier ride on.

Good Luck

Usually means the keyboard is bad. Check the keyboard connecdtions. Sometimes a real pain to remove and reinsert them. What lights are blinking?

Flashing lights

You have a keyboard problem. The rt. connector has 7 contacts bussed together, wrap a piece of foil over that portion of the connector and plug it back in. BE SURE TO COVER ONLY THE 7 BUSSED CONNECTORS!
