Question about Craftsman 20 Hp 42" Deck Lawn Tractor

1 Answer

I have a 903lt Lawnflite and the engine stalls every time I try to engage the cutters by lowering the engaging lever. What am I doing wrong or how do I correct the problem. The Lawnmower starts and drives perfectly well. Thanks Ian

Use higher revs,
ensure you are not in reverse
get mower moving first then once driving forward then engage blades

Silly question...but do you have the grass collector on the back? The blades won't engage unless it is fitted.

MTD JE135A wiring diagram The engine cuts out when activating the lower lever. In line micro switches test OK

I think the carb may be plugged up restricting flow to the engine,to lean and the engine will stall while engaging the PTO...
Get carb cleaned, and adjusted as needed .

Ride on mower can ride around but whe engage fanbelt for cutter motor stall no power but very thing does turn easy with hand

Sounds like your mower deck safety switch is is located near the end of the handle that engages the mower deck..try unhooking it and bypassing it with a wire or heavy paper clip...then try mowing if it mows that is your problem..the mower deck will, operate that way but is a safety need to get it replace,,easy to do yourself..good luck.

Hi, I have a westwood t1500 with B & S engine which starts fine also runs fine with cutter disengaged, when cutter engaged it sends out clouds of white smoke and idles to a halt. Any ideas Regards ...

Sounds like the cutter is not turning free causing the engine to drag down and stop, I do not think the B&S engine is the problem. I have rebuilt dozens of these engines and most of the problems with a Briggs engine was dirt in the gas or carburetor that needed needle valve cleaned . If the cutters turn free, check for a bad or out of adjustment safety kill switch that engages and stops the engine as the cutters are engaged.

Mower wont engage

The problem is in the park brake circuit, either the wires are off,the switch is bad or the park brake is on.Also check the switch under the hood near the linkage for the pto lever.

Stalls when engaging cutter blades

The shaft that holds the blade could be rapped with something or needs a new bearing. Check again next to the deck, try a little WD 40 on the bearing.
