Question about Canon PowerShot SD1000 Digital Camera

Large movie download on XP

I cannot transfer movies larger than 400MB or so from the SD1000 to my Windows XP computer. It works fine on a Mac under iPhoto, but on the PC it starts the transfer and stops after a while, leaving a size 0 file in the target folder. I have 25GB of available space on the disk. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I can't transfer a 1.2 gig avi file from my sd1000 to either my XP desktop or notebook. I can pull the SD card and copy via a card reader.

  • Anonymous Dec 21, 2008

I was able to pull video (.avi) files off sd1100 one at a time, all except the largest 215mb .avi file. It gives me that 0 mb copy.

Use a card reader like that guy did, else make sure battery is 100% also make sure you have it plugged into the back USB ports as well as unplugging any other usb devices just in case it's lack of power

Lost software disc which allow to download movies and photos'

The software disk contains third party programs of which Sanyo gave you license to use. You can download separate programs but you will also need to purchase their license. For the connectivity if you are using windows XP then just plug-in your camera into the USB port and it will automatically install so you can copy your photos and videos. The CD has the following software:

QuickTime 6.5

Ulead Photo Explorer 8.5 SE Basic (Windows)/Photo Explorer for Mac 2.0
(Macintosh)

Motion Director SE 1.1 (Windows)

Ulead DVD MovieFactory 4.0 SE (Windows)

CANON SD1000 can't TURN vertical downloaded video into horizontal

If you have windows movie maker (its part of the default installation of windows XP) you can use the rotate filter in the video effects tools.
Import your video into movie maker and select "Video Effects" under tools.  Scroll through the various effects until you find the "rotate 90".  Apply the effect and save the video.
I hope this helps!

The best way to transfer is using a memory card through a generic USB card reader. Try not using the USB cord for a while.

I have the Canon PowerShot SD600 and took pictures and filmed movies on my camera. The pictures and small movies downloaded but the larger ones won't download. Suggestions?

I am having the same problem with my Powershot A560. I have transferred several smaller movies to my computer in the past, but I have a large one (230MB) that results in the camera disconnecting and giving an I/O error, even though I have used a couple different types of software to try to download this.

Can't download large movie files to iphoto : (

i found the answer to my own question above and thought i'd share.

rather than iphoto, you can use "image capture," which is software that comes standard with the mac.

-Turn on your camera, and connect it to your computer with the cable that came with it.
-Close iPhoto if it opens automatically. Open Image Capture (Applications folder).
-Click Download Some to choose specific items to transfer, or click Download All to transfer all items.
If you click Download Some, choose the items to transfer, and click Download.

By default, Image Capture transfers still images to your Pictures folder, video files to your Movies folder, and music files to your Music folder. To choose another folder, choose Other from the Download To pop-up menu, then click Download Some or Download All.
