Question about GE 21.9 Cu. Ft. Side-by-Side Refrigerator - Bisque-on-Bisque

Freezer seems to have stopped working on my Model GSS25JFMD.

A few days ago we noticed water dripping from the bottom of the frig. I checked the freezer today and observed the items in the freezer from top to bottom were in varying degrees of frozen from thawed on top to semi frozen to frozen on the bottom. I am thinking things were gradually thawing as the temp in the freezer dropped.

Is there any kind of system check, diagnostic or cleaning of coils, etc. I could do? My next step is to check behind the frig and see if anything is dust clogged. Also, right now I turned up the freezer from 3 to 9 and placed a baggie of water on the top shelf to see what is happening.

Our side by side hasn't ever given us a bit of trouble. I think we purchased it in 1998 or 1999.

From your description , it sounds like the fan in the freezer quit working . This is usually caused by the main control board behind the refrig , behind the 8 X 10 " panel . It would be adviseable to replace the freezer fan motor also as this could have caused the board to malfunction .

Drain is possibly blocked inside freezer that allows water to escape to the pan below the refrigerator. You will need to remove frozen items and remove the panel that covers the evaporator to get to it.

My kenmore refrig (freezer on top) has started dripping from tube near temp control inside of frig. I think it might be related that one month ago - electric was off since not at apt for one month. Doors...

Your defroster inside the fridge may not be doing a good enough job to keep the drain from freezing up. Check to see if the drain pan is frozen over in the freezer section. I took the cover off the inside of the freezer and wrapped a piece of uninsulated 14 gauge solid copper wire around the heating element and pushed one end down the inside of the drain tube and wrapped the other end around the heating element. No problems since.

Unplugged frig overnite once I plugged back in made a gurgeling sound whenever I opened the door what would that be?

Usually that is caused by a bad defrost heater thermostat or defrost timer. Failure to automatically defrost is the cause of freezing up.
If you don't feel up to doing the work yourself you should have an appliance repair shop look at it.

The gurgling is caused by water in the catch pan under the fridge. When you defrosted it some of the water made it into the drip pan (and maybe overflowed onto the floor). The fan inside the compressor area under and behind the freezer may be splashing in the excess water in the drip pan. This by itself is not a real problem since it is designed to automatically evaporate the water drained during automatic defrosting, but the excess water and potential overflow onto the floor can become a problem.

Water is slowly dripping from the top of Frig.

The water is coming from the defrost cycle in the top of unit . It drains down at the back of the light cover into a tube at the back. Get a phillips screwdriver and take it down to be sure tube is inserted properly. Get model number and go to.appliancepartspros.com to get a diagram.

GE side by side by side, water drips from bottom freezer door

I have the same problem. Just talked to a friend that's a great appliance repairman. he said I have to remove the panel in the back inside of freezer and there is a drain that gets clogged up, a little hole or tube.
clean that and should work fine and stop leaking. I haven't had time yet, but this weekend I'll do the deed. Hopes this helps ya!

Water dripping from somewhere inside the refrigerator

I believe the problem is with the drain line when the frig goes into defrost mode

see if you can trace the drain line that oes into the evaporator pan at the bottom of the frig

facing the frig remove the bottom panel that goes across the front and pull out the evaporator tray to see if it is dry

take a flashlight and see if you can see a plastic tube that the water should be dripping into the pan

try to trace the tube up into the frig ther is some type of catch basin inside the frig on the back panel usually around middle area

If you are not able to find it you can call whrlpol customer service 1-800-253-1301
or call an appliance service enter and as them f they can walk you through the problem

Good Luck
