Try removing your spark plug, you could have fuel on top of the piston or even "vapor lock". If that doesnt work try squeezing the trigger of gun/wand as you pull.

Snowblower won t start. pull cord too tight

How long has it setup? Could be varnished up, maybe broken ring, damaged needle bearings. Remove muffler an try to spray some cleaner or fuel in port to free it.

Disconnected battery and now won't start

Won't start as in no rotation of the starter motor and no clicking sound? Or starter turns slowly with the engine? Or the starter and engines turns normally but will not start? Or starter turns normally but engine will not turn?

Starter cord jammed on my mcculloch cabrio 433l strimmer, only pulling a few inches

First remove the spark plug and see if the starter can be pulled without the plug in place. If it cannot, any job that involves a recoil starter is a messy frustrating job, and if you had to put a price on the hassle that it is, it is probably better to pay somebody else to do it. That said, remove the starter cover with the cord and pulley inside. If there is a plate holding down the cord pulley, remove it and carefully lift out the pulley, try not to dislodge the recoil spring as this is where the frustration part comes in. Check the cord is not off the pulley or is frayed and caught on something. See if the starter will operate when it is removed from the motor.
If you need to renew the cord, insert the new cord end into the hole and copy the old knot - pass the other end of the cord through the eyelet in the cover. N.B. At this time take note of the direction that the recoil spring coil is orientated. Wind about 3/4 of the cord around the pulley and attach the start handle to the outside end of the cord. Carefully fit the pulley over the spring and place the cord into the cutout in the pulley. Wind up the pulley so that it engages in the curl in the inside of the recoil spring and further wind up the pulley in the opposite direction of the normal pulley start pull, holding the cord in the little cut-out so that the cord does not wind up as you wind the spring. It probably takes about 5 extra turns on the pulley to get the recoil tension right. Always hold the pulley in place to prevent the spring from jumping out. Release the cord so it can retract and replace the retaining plate. This is all if the spring does not jump out - which it so often does.
If the spring jumps out, hold it by the inside portion and start winding it up, pulling it tight to keep the coil small enough to fit back into its receptacle, . Once the spring is wound up and will fit into its position the problem starts. I found that gripping the spring with an alligator jaw vice grip will allow you to replace the spring and carefully release it without it going wild again, engaging the outer hook in its retaining slot or around its peg. Trying to feed the spring into position coil by coil seldom works, it has to be wound up outside and then inserted, especially on a small motor.
This procedure is as difficult to explain as it is to carry out. I have done many cord replacements and always dread the next one. If you have any problems, feel free to come back to me.

The start cord on the leaf blower won't pull out more than a few inches. Why is this?

pull your spasrk plug out and see if it pulls over then, cylinder might be fullof gas causing hydro lock condition,if so pullit till cylinder dries out then re-install plug and try starting. if all is good check your fuel cap to make sure the vent is working! If it's not venting this causes vacumn that pull fuel out of tank to cylinder after it is shut off...........Good Luck 2StrokeJim

I've just been mowing my lawn and pulled the string cord out of the motor. I'm really struggling to find how and where to reinsert the string cable my model is a honda hrd 535. can anyone help?

you will need to take the shroud off the the engine, should be four bolt. remove shroud, turn it upside down, wind pulley counterclockwise with the pulley wound insert cord by aligning it through the holes, tie a knot and singe, let go of pulley and it will self retract, pull on the cord a few times to ensure the knot is holding then reinstall shroud. Hope this helped Tim

I have replaced the pull cord in my Talon Silver Eagle but it wont return onto the pulley after starting.

The recoil assembly must be wound when installing the new rope:

Remove the recoil assembly from the mower, there are 3 machine screws.
Remove the old rope and get matching cord, make sure you get the correct diameter, usually 3/16 or 1/4 inch, and type, I believe it should be nylon braided. Do not cut the new cord.
Use a match to light the end of the cord and once it ignites, use an old rag to pull and form the end into a point.
Notice which way the pulley in the starter assembly rotates and hand spin it in that direction until it is fairly tight. Once it is tight, rotate it into a position such that you can push the pointed end of the cord from the outside into the hole in the housing of the starter and directly into the hole on the inner pulley. Tie a tight knot in the end of the rope inside the pulley.
Remove the clamp and let the rope get rewound on the pulley. Cut the cord, point this end and run it into the handle and knot it.

Seems to have no tension when I pull the cord, wont start

Located internally in your pull starter, there is a clutch, which from the sounds of it, is not working properly. Sometimes you can give the handle short gentle pulls (aprox. 5 inches) and sometimes it will engage. Otherwise, you would want to get starter assembly replaced/repaired. Good Luck.22

Poulan 16" cannot start...pull cord locked up

Remove the cover, should be 4 screws that holds it on once the 4 screws are loosened the rope could rewind on its own. If not check to make sure the spring is not broken.
