Cassette Deck Not Working

I recently was given a very old REALISTIC (That is the brand name) Model No. 14-778A. I love it and almost everything on it works well, besides some cosmetic damage. My problem is the sad fact that the cassette deck does not seem to work. I press the eject button, and it (the cassette cradle) pops out nice and dandy. I switch to tape input (one of the buttons on the top) so I can play a tape, and I press play. Nothing. Nothing spins or turns like a normal cassette player would. I get the same results with fast forward and rewind. Please, I would really like to get this fixed! And no, I wouldn't mind taking it apart if I have to...

I know exactly what the problem is. I used to have one of these blasters and the tape drive belt has broken. I probably went through 8 belts. (it would usually happen when I pressed Record and Pause at the same time!!!) I would always take mine back to Radio Shack cause they would fix it for free (as an ongoing issue and I've seen lots of similar stories about the belts on this model), but do a little research and you should be able to get one (grab a couple ) and do it yourself. As for the blaster, it is awesome isn't it? KILLER sound. I had given mine to a friend when I bought a monster home stereo back in the day and have regretted that decision for years. Hope this helps!!

My cassette deck Onkyo model Ta 2060 is working slowly

By the fault you describe this sounds very much like a belt problem. Take the case off the deck and check the belt(s). Some decks can use more than one belt and you need to look at their condition.

Are they too slack around pulleys maybe? Belts don't last forever and I'm not too sure of the age of your deck. But personally, I would change them all.

Make sure the tape path is clean as well, clean heads, pinch roller and capstan.

Cassette Tape Deck Problem

Unit may have worn belts that are slipping. All cassette player belts are subject to deterioration even if recently installed. You may try ordering the belts yourself and have a service tech install them. The tech that installed belts 9 months ago may have used used belts. Although dishonest, it is common.

Wish to purchase a certain model am/fm / cassett in dash player deck single dimension

Well, I finally just broke down, went out and purchased a brand new am/fm/cassette player. These type stereo decks are kind of scarce now -a-days. It was reasonably priced and hope it will last longer than the old Phase Linear PCR4500.
Thanks for sharing and caring.

Best Regards,

P.S. The new rig is a completely different name manufacturer.

Problem with deck B on Pioneer CT-W205R

Better tape decks, like Pioneer, may use a different mechanism for record/play than FF & REW. So it sounds like a belt or mechanical link for the REC/PLAY has failed.
