You need to clean it, sand it shiny, then clean it squeaky again.

Then you can get high temperature appliance paint in spray or brush-on form from local appliance part stores or places like Wal-Mart and Lowe's.

I would suggest you let it dry overnight with the door open before using the oven.

If youare referring to the inside of the oven NO This is baked enamel and if it has scuffed and gone rusty then do not use it as any paints applied will not withstand the activity of the magnatron. Special paint is used and baked in high temp oven to help withstand microwaves. Normal paint will burn off

Oven began to spark and smell. The waveguide cover broke apart & scorched side now won't heat. Clock/light work so does the turntable but groans. Is it fixable or done?

It is possible the magnetron may have been destroyed. Arcing in the waveguide would likely cause a significant increase of cathode to plate current through it; possibly melting it internally. You could also have failure of the high voltage rectifier; caused also by high current. If that's the only problem, then it's possibly repairable for a reasonable cost. You would have to repair and repainted the waveguide. Some waveguides have a vertical bar in them to aid in dispersion of the microwaves. If this is loose and shorting, then you'd have to replace the entire frame/cavity. Not very practical.

Cant get microwave off wall ..im trying to repaint

I just put mine up so I know that to put it ON the wall you put the bottom into a bracket first then tilt up and slide it down. To get it off you should be able to lift it up. Its probably stuck from old paint or crud build up. Mine is over my stove so I am sure the steam from cooking builds up some gunk over time.

MICROWAVE TAKES LONGER TO COOK EVEN ON HIGH AND OCCASIONALLY SPARKS FOR NO REASON

inside your micro... walls are made of metal but protected with paint, if this paint is gone and the metal shows thats what happend you have to repaint the unprotected areas again, and the reason your micro... is not working so good anymore is due to the magnetron

Paint is peeling inside the top of the microwave. Does this affect the safety or efficacy of the microwave. Can I repaint it? If so, with what?

Yes you can repaint it. Use an epoxy based paint and clean the metalwork with sand paper first.
The only health question is if you get the flaking paint in your food - yuk!

Paint on ring under glass dish as gone rustey

That is caused by condensation. It can be cleaned and repainted. There is special non metalic paint available from Appliance stores or ebay etc that can be painted on the bare metal.

Rust on bottom of back panel can the be resolved?

Not very likely. I would suggest rubbing down and repainting the effected area.

Hope this helps

Bottom is rusty in the roller groove

If the cavity metal of the oven is chipped or charred, it will have to be sanded smooth and clean and dried thoroughly first.

Then you can apply some high-temperature appliance paint.

I have a Spacesaver Microwave (manufactured 1988) that still seems to work ok, but I noticed on teh back wall under the glass tray the coating has rusted away. Should I continue to use this microwave?

Hi,

As long as the oven's metal bottom is sound underneath the rust, there isn't a problem. The cooking chamber walls are so thick and highly conducting that they reflect the microwaves extremely well even when they have a little rust on them. However, if the metal is so rusted that it loses most of its conductivity in the rust sites, you'll get local heating across the rusty patches and eventually leakage of microwaves. If you're really concerned that there may be trouble, run the microwave oven empty for about 20 seconds and then (carefully!) touch the rusty spots. If they aren't hot, then the metal underneath is doing its job just fine.

Thanks.

Peeling paint

The only real danger is if it continues, it can deteriorate the metal, allowing sparking and possible leakage.

It's a good idea to clean, sand, clean again and repaint the area.

High temperature appliance paint is available form stores like Lowe's and Wal-Mart.
